China Academy of Art is a fine arts college under the direct charge of the Ministry of Culture of China. It was founded in Hangzhou in 1928 by the government of the Republic of China and the renowned educator Cai Yuanpei. It was the first art university and first graduate school in Chinese history. At the time, China Academy of Art's goal was to promote fine arts education as a replacement for religion in the then war-torn China. Fine arts has been held as equal to a religion at the institution for almost eight decades. The academy has many renowned artists in its alumni and is considered one of the most prestigious art institutions in the country. It is colloquially called Guomei.

Hangzhou is in Zhejiang Province, China. It is one of the most important tourist cities in China, famous for its natural beauty and historical and cultural heritage. The Xiling Seal Art Society is a Chinese arts organisation based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, PRC. It was founded in 1904 but, with antecedents dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, is one of China's most important traditional stone seal engraving associations.

Now the province’s largest public art museum, the Zhejiang Art Museum opened in 2009 and is one of China’s key national museums. It is located in Hangzhou. The primary mission of the museum is to collect and exhibit works of art and literature, but it also engages in academic research and offers public cultural services. In 2015, it became the important national art museum. At present, it has possessed near 20,000 art collections of different kinds.
