Honfleur, located at the mouth of the Seine River, is known as the jewel of Normandy. Its tiny, picturesque port gave inspiration to numerous painters such as Claude Monet and Eugène Boudin. The townhouses a museum dedicated to the latter called Musee Eugene Boudin. The museum has many objects & paintings, including over 2,500 sculptures & paintings, approx. 1000 furniture & costume items, a selection of early 20th century toys, & over 100 Normandy posters dated from the 1880s to the 1950s. If you choose to take a tour around the museum the entrance will be approx. €7.50pp (payable on the day). On the tour, we will stroll along the cobblestone streets, and see Saint Catherine’s Church with its twisted, medieval, half-timbered façade. Made from timber, the church was built around the mid-15th century, & is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
From here our tour takes us to Deauville in the Cote Fleurie region, where we can spend a short time soaking up the glamour of this resort city. Deauville is an admired seaside resort due to its many conference centers & villas, plus the Grand Casino & The Deauville-La Touques Racecourse.
To round off the day, we’ll take a trip to Beuvron en Auge, a small picturesque village in the heart of Pays d’Auge. Within this oval central square, there are many antique shops, half wooden houses, markets & cider producers.
