See unique views across the Santra Iria viewpoint before heading further north towards the coastline and villages of Ribeira Grande city where we will make our next stop at the Gorreana Factory tea plantation, famous for its Green Tea. Learn all about the production of the powerful local product.
Our next stop will be one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe, the Terra Nostra Gardens home to the largest collection of Camellias. The thermal water pool is without a doubt a highlight of the Azores.
Set in 12.5 hectares, the gardens are home to one of the world’s largest collections of Camellias having over 600 different species.
Visit a local restaurant where you will enjoy a typical Cozido lunch. Cooked in the geothermal chambers around the Furnas lakes using the volcanic heat and activity you can truly embrace this unique experience.
After this fantastic meal, we will head over to Furnas Lake. With its startling blue-green waters fringed by forested hillsides and dotted with hot springs, fumaroles, and bubbling mud pots, the crater lake of Furnas Lake (Lagoa das Furnas) is one of Azores’ most enchanting natural wonders. Located in one of Furnas’ two ancient calderas, the lake offers the opportunity to explore a volcanic landscape up close.
Our last stop will be the Furnas Caldera. Here you can see the richness of the Furnas Valley and the diversity of its spring’s mineral and thermal waters, often considered the largest hydropower in the world. It is in Furnas Caldera you will see the steaming fumaroles and their unique mineral waters.
