The old town center of Ljubljana is embraced by Ljubljana Castle and the river Ljubljanica. On our trip, we will experience ancient and modern architecture. The tour guide will the streets admire the works of the Slovene architect Joze Plecnik, who took an important part in designing Ljubljana’s most famous bridges, town squares, and parks. In a little more than three decades, Joze Plecnik transformed Ljubljana from a provincial city to the capital of the Slovene nation and reshaped the urban part of the city. His influence can be felt everywhere, but mostly along the river Ljubljanica.
Your professional tour guide will then take you to the heart of the city – which feels more like a charming town – to visit sites including St Nicholas’s Cathedral, the Triple Bridges, the Market Square, and the willow-lined banks of the Ljubljana River.
Your tour will then continue to Lake Bled, which is located in the Julian Alps in northwest Slovenia. Lake Bled is a popular alpine resort that boasts some of the most beautiful lakes and mountainous scenery in Europe. You’ll have plenty of free time to explore this scenic resort, or alternatively, you can visit the spectacular Bled Castle, an 11th-Century castle located on a precipice above the city of Bled. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding lakes and mountains from the castle – a perfect place to take photographs before returning back to Trieste cruise port in plenty of time for your cruise ship’s departure.
