Leaving the port of Volos we head on a scenic journey to Thessaly (previously known as Aeolia), to the famous rock formations of Meteora, which has a meaning of 'in the air'.

We recommend that you bring sun cream, a sun hat and bottled water with you, as at times it can get extremely hot.
Please wear comfortable footwear for this excursion as it involves some walking on uneven ground, inclines and steps.
Please be aware that a dress code is required, shorts are not permitted and ladies cannot wear trousers (within the monasteries)

Meteora is famous for its monasteries, nestled in a wonderful landscape, on the top of giant rock pillars 600 meters above sea level. The first monasteries were built in the 14th century AD, the development of the monasteries led to an illustrious period of monastic life as it grew in the 15th and 16th centuries. Your guide during the tour will be pointing out all of the highlights and explaining the history and culture of the area as it stands today.
The only access to the monasteries was by means of very long ladders, which could be pulled up when not in use, steps have now been cut out in the rock and a road has been developed to allow vehicles to these iconic buildings.
Within this tour, we will visit two of the famous monasteries (entrance fees are payable locally – 3 euros’s each monastery.
Please be aware that a dress code is required, shorts are not permitted and ladies cannot wear trousers.
There will be free time in the village of Kalambaka where you are able to take lunch, or a souvenir shop before heading back to the port.
A full day is had with this tour, a fascinating insight into this truly memorable destination.
At the end of the tour, you will be taken back to Volos cruise port in plenty of time for the cruise ship’s departure.
