Highlights

Candie Gardens
Guernsey Museum is set amidst this late 19th century pleasure garden on the outskirts of St Peter Port. These historic gardens were established in 1894 in the grounds of Candie House and offer excellent panoramic views over the rooftops of St. Peter Port to the neighbouring islands. The Lower Gardens were sympathetically refurbished and restored in 1998-99 and are a rare surviving example of a Victorian Public Flower Garden. Visitors to the gardens can discover a wide variety of plants from all over the world. One of Candie's restored historic greenhouses, dating to c. 1792/93, hosts the annual Nerine Festival each October. Once part of a private estate, the award-winning, restored Victorian Candie Gardens offer spectacular views across St Peter Port harbor and our sister islands of Herm, Sark, and Jethou, along with a rare example of a late 19th-century public flower garden.
Castle Cornet
Castle Cornet is a large island castle in Guernsey, and former tidal island, also known as Cornet Rock or Castle Rock. Its importance was as a defence not only of the island but of the roadstead. In 1859 it became part of one of the breakwaters of Guernsey's main harbour, St Peter Port's harbour.
Courts of Guernsey
The Courts of Guernsey are responsible for the administration of justice in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. They apply the law of the Island, which is a mixture of customary law dating back as far as the 10th century and legislation passed by the legislature, the States of Deliberation.
Elizabeth College
The Royal College of Elizabeth, better known as Elizabeth College, is an independent day school for boys in Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. One of the earliest members of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC), it is a public school in the British sense of the term. Founded on 25 May 1563 by royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I, the school is one of the oldest public schools in the British Isles, and the oldest public school in the Channel Islands.
Prince Albert Statue
Unveiled in 1863, two years after his death, the statue recalled the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to Guernsey in 1846. It is a bronze statue set on Cornish granite depicting Prince Albert wearing the robes of the Order of the Bath.
Saint Peter Port
Saint Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey as well as the main port. The population in 2019 was 18,958. In Guernésiais and in French, historically the official language of Guernsey, the name of the town and its surrounding parish is St Pierre Port. The "port" distinguishes this parish from Saint Pierre Du Bois. As well as being a parish, St. Peter Port is a small town consisting mostly of steep narrow streets and steps on the overlooking slopes. It is known that a trading post/town existed here before Roman times with a pre-Christian name which has not survived. People from St. Peter Port, were nicknamed "les Villais" (the townspeople) or "cllichards" in Guernésiais.
The Town Church
The Town Church is also known as the "Parish Church of St Peter Port", "Sancti Petri du Portu" and "Town Church of St Peter, Apostle & Martyr". The earliest known religious building on the site was in 1020 with a reference to a small rectangular chapel; however, a building probably existed in the 8th century. The current building, probably started in the 13th century was completed in its current format by 1466. The Town Church is considered the main island church so serves both the States of Deliberation and the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey as well as the parishioners of Saint Peter Port. The current rector is the Reverend Matthew Barrett.
Victor Hugo House
Hauteville House is a house where Victor Hugo lived during his exile from France, located at 38 Rue Hauteville in St. Peter Port in Guernsey. In March 1927, the centenary year of Romanticism, Hugo's descendants Jeanne, Jean, Marguerite and François donated the house to the City of Paris. It currently houses an honorary consul to the French embassy at London and a Victor Hugo museum; house and garden are both open to the public.
Victoria Tower
