Highlights

Amakusa
Amakusa is a city spread over several islands in southwestern Japan. Amakusa Christian Museum on Shimoshima Island and Santa Maria Museum on Ueshima Island trace the history of the area’s “hidden Christians” during the Edo Period. The Catholic churches of Sakitsu and Ōe Tenshudo date from the 1930s. Wild dolphins can be seen from boats off Shimoshima’s northwestern coast. Mogushi is a popular beach in the southwest.
Amakusa Christian Museum
Amakusa Christian Museum opened in Amakusa, Japan, in 1966 and in March 2014 received its four millionth visitor.
