Highlights

Kadriorg Palace and Park
If there’s one part of Tallinn outside Old Town that a first time visitor absolutely, definitely, unquestionably has to see, it’s Kadriorg. Though it’s only a few minutes’ walk from the centre, this quiet area is a world unto itself, a secluded neighbourhood made up of large areas of forested park criss-crossed by paths and dotted with statues and ponds. It’s also home to a number of intriguing 19th- and 20th-century villas, and the nation’s top art museums.
Song Festival Grounds
Completed in 1960, Tallinn's Song Festival Grounds were the first modern post-war construction to be built in the city. Unique in Europe, they were designed by Alar Kotli, Henno Sepmann and Uno Tölpus. Their design took into account the nature of the land they were to be built on: audiences would be seated on the slope of the hill, so the song arch would need to echo sound to them. A copy of the song stage was later erected in Vilnius.
Tallinn
Located on the coast of Gulf of Finland, Tallinn is a well known city and capital of Estonia. Tallinn is an intoxicating mix of ancient church spires, glass skyscrapers, baroque palaces, appealing eateries, brooding battlements, shiny shopping malls, run-down wooden houses, and cafes set on sunny squares – with a few Soviet throwbacks in the mix, for added spice. Many relics of Tallinn’s long history survive or have been restored, especially on Toompea hill and in the old, walled Lower Town. Port of Tallinn is the biggest port authority in Estonia. If you are a lover of history and enjoy shopping on the streets, this is one city that you just can't avoid to miss.
Tallinn Old Lower Town
Lower Town, the larger part of medieval Tallinn (or Reval as it was called back then), became a member of the Hanseatic League at the end of the 13th century. Goods from around the world came in through the port and were traded on the market on Town Hall Square. Reval operated autonomously from the rest of the Estonian territories right up until Tsarist Russian times. As in the rest of the country, the real movers and shakers in Reval society were the Baltic Germans, with Ethnic Estonians for most part second-class citizens. However, Estonian peasants from surrounding areas often escaped to the city, where they could eventually be considered free.

Itinerary

10:00

Surrounding the mesmerizing Kadriorg Palace is the outstanding palatial and urban park, Kadriorg Park. The best place in town for strolling, pondering, and cycling amongst the ample acreage, patches of green, flowing fountains, and pretty little flower beds. You will soon realize why Peter the Great founded this beautiful park in honor of his wife Catherine.

On the other side of Kadriorg Palace, you’ll come to the Estonian ‘White House’ located inside the dominant Palace Square with its pink exterior.

Cycle your way to the Song Festival Grounds. This large event venue holds a very special place in Estonian’s hearts as the birthplace of the Singing Revolution since 1869. Immerse yourself in the view of the sea here and the Old Town of Tallinn, a fabulous place for a photo opportunity! Not far away is the Maarjamae Memorial which stands in remembrance of those who have lost their lives during World War II.

Enjoy cycling towards the Old Town of Tallinn along the seaside, breathing in the fresh sea air. The Lower Town of Tallinn, once separated from the Upper Town by gates, is one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in Europe, also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you have the opportunity to enjoy some leisure time. Take the time to pick up souvenirs, have a snack in one of the lovely eateries or enjoy a refreshment and watch the world go by while your guide looks after your bike.

Return to your bike relaxed ready for your cycle back to your cruise ship.

You will cycle 14km on this excursion over a three-hour period.
