Highlights

Bratislava
Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is set along the Danube River by the border with Austria and Hungary. It’s surrounded by vineyards and the Little Carpathian mountains, crisscrossed with forested hiking and cycling trails. The pedestrian-only, 18th-century old town is known for its lively bars and cafes. Perched atop a hill, the reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks old town and the Danube.
Bratislava Castle
Bratislava Castle is the main castle of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danube river in the middle of Bratislava.
Bratislava Old Town
The charming Old Town is home to Bratislava Castle, a baroque-style hilltop fortress with sweeping city views. The Blue Church is decorated with colorful glazed tiles, and Medická záhrada park is dotted with sculptures. Nedbalova street has designer boutiques, while clubs and cocktail bars are concentrated around Main Square. Dining options include traditional Slovak pubs, vegetarian cafes, and international cuisine.
Bratislava Old Town Hall
The Old Town Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Bratislava. Built in 1370, this civic hall was also used as a prison and a mint. For another view over Bratislava, climb the tower. You get a great view of the main square below.
Central Square of Bratislava
Hlavné námestie is one of the best-known squares in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is located in the Old Town and it is often considered to be the center of the city. Some of the main landmarks found in the square are the Old Town Hall and Roland Fountain.
Danube river
The Danube is Europe's second-longest river, after the Volga. It is located in Central and Eastern Europe. The Danube was once a long-standing frontier of the Roman Empire and today flows through 10 countries.
Devin Castle
Devín Castle is a castle in Devín, which is a borough of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The site has been settled since the Neolithic Age and fortified since the Bronze and Iron Age and later by Celts and Romans. The cliff (elevation 212 meters) is an ideal place for a fort due to its position at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. The fort watches over an important trade route along the Danube as well as one branch of the Amber Road. The castle stands just inside Slovak territory on the frontier between Slovakia and Austria.
