Highlights

Arrecife
Arrecife is a city and municipality in the Canary Islands (Spain) situated in the center east of the island of Lanzarote, of which it has been the capital since 1852. The city owes its name to the rock reef ('Arrecife' is Spanish for 'reef') which covers the beach located in the city. The city also gives its name to the nearby Arrecife Airport. The population of the municipality is 61351 (2018), its area is 22.72 square kilometers (8.77 sq mi). It is south of Teguise, east of San Bartolomé, and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to its southeast. Arrecife is a port town on the east coast, served by ferries to the other islands and also Europe and mainland Africa. The LZ1 road connects Arrecife to the northeast of the island, the LZ2 road connects the capital to the island's southwest, and the LZ3 road serves as the city's beltway. The tallest building in Lanzarote is the Arrecife Gran Hotel, which is located on the seafront alongside the harbour.
Cesar Manrique Foundation
The César Manrique foundation was set up in 1982 by César Manrique and a group of friends but wasn't officially opened until 1992 after Manrique died. The foundation, based at Manrique's home, following his move to a townhouse in the North of the Island, is a private, non-profit organization set-up to allow tourists access to Manrique's home. The foundation is also an art gallery featuring art created by Manrique himself as well as Art that he acquired during his life. The gallery includes original sketches by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. The money the foundation takes from ticket sales goes toward raising awareness about the art of Lanzarote, as well as being used to fund the foundation's "artistic, cultural and environmental activities". Manrique's home itself is built within a 3,000 m2 lot, on the site of the Lanzarote eruptions in the 18th century, and was created upon Manrique's return from New York City in 1966. The rooms on the first floor, including the artist studios, were created with the intention of keeping with Lanzarote traditions, yet making them more modern with open spaces and large windows. The "ground floor", more appropriately titled the "basement", contains five areas situated within volcanic bubbles, the rooms bored into volcanic basalt. There is a central cave which houses a recreational area, including a swimming pool, a barbecue and a small dance floor. Once outside the main house, the visitor comes to the outside area, where there is a small square with a fountain in the middle before approaching a small café area and the visitor shop. This area was once César Manrique's garage. One of the foundation's fundamental missions is to oppose the spread of high-rise concrete across the Spanish coastline and her island. The foundation recently brought attention to 24 illegally erected hotels in Lanzarote.
Jameos del Agua Cave
Jameos del Agua is a series of lava caves, located in the municipality of Haría in northern Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. It is also an art, culture and tourism center, created by local artist and architect, César Manrique, and managed by the government of Lanzarote. Jameos del Agua consists of a subterranean salt lake, restaurant, gardens, emerald-green pool, museum and auditorium.
Jardín de Cactus
The Jardín de Cactus is a cactus garden on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. It is situated in the village of Guatiza, in a former quarry where volcanic sand was extracted to spread on cultivated areas to retain moisture. Prickly pears are grown in the area for the production of cochineal.
Mirador del Rio
Mirador del Río is a viewpoint on an approximately 475-metre-high escarpment called Batería del Río in the north of the Canarian island of Lanzarote.
Monumento al Campesino
The distinctive Monumento a la Fecundidad created by César Manrique marks the entrance to the Monumento al Campesino in San Bartolomé. The white fertility sculpture was constructed from disused water tanks and dedicated to the conejero farmers who work so hard to produce crops from the volcanic land in Lanzarote. It stands 15 metres high and visitors can take the path to climb up the steps to the base of the monument for a panoramic view. The sculpture was created by Manrique in 1968 and the monument created by Jesus Soto who was tasked with creating a base suitable to withstand the wind in Lanzarote.
