Highlights

City of Swimming Carp
Shimabara has always been blessed with plentiful spring water. The “City of Swimming Carp” has been beautifully maintained by local people. The sight of the colorful Nishikigoi carp swimming through the canals of the city is one of the most attractive features of Shimabara.
Nagasaki
Nagasaki is the capital and the largest city of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. It became the sole port used for trade with the Portuguese and Dutch during the 16th through 19th centuries and the Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region have been recognized and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Part of Nagasaki was home to a major Imperial Japanese Navy base during the First Sino-Japanese War and Russo-Japanese War. At the end of World War II, the American atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki made Nagasaki the second and, to date, the last city in the world to experience a nuclear attack at 11:02 am, August 9, 1945.
Shimabara Castle
Shimabara Castle, also known as Moritake Castle and Takaki Castle is a Japanese castle located in Shimabara, Hizen Province (present-day Nagasaki prefecture). This five-story white building stands in stark contrast to the black Kumamoto Castle in neighboring Kumamoto Prefecture.
Shimabara City
Shimabara is a city located on the north-eastern tip of the Shimabara Peninsula, facing Ariake Bay in the east and Mount Unzen (including Fugendake) in the west, in Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan.
