Discover the scenic Hesteyri village on a half-day private tour
Hesteyri is the westernmost bay of the Jokulfiord Area. The village was built at the end of the 19th century when the Norwegian company found the whaling station. Later the company was moved to another region and the factory was altered to accommodate the processing of herring. The factory was closed in 1940 and local residents decided to leave the village. It is now abandoned but even more attractive for tourists because of the fantastic views and stunning nature.
