Highlights

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a waterfall on Jeju Island, South Korea. Literally, the name Cheonjiyeon means sky (Ch'eon) connected with land (ji). It is one of the main tourist attractions on Jeju-do. It is 22 m high and 12 m wide. Though water always falls in one particular area, depending on the amount of recent rain, the water may spread out. At the bottom of the waterfall is an artificial pond that is 20 m deep. Two small dams help keep the water at a specific level. Large volcanic rocks form landbridges that allow tourists to pose for photographs in front of the falls. These falls are characterized by its trachyte andesite rocks. The source of Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a spring that comes out of the floor of the Somban Stream. The stream Yeonhee-chun is the source of the waterfall. The waterfall is one of the three famous waterfalls of Jeju, the other two being Cheonjeyeon Waterfall and Jeongbang Waterfall.
Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff
Jusangjeolli is stone pillars piled up along the coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jeju Island. Jusangjeolli Cliff was formed when the lava from Hallasan Mountain erupted into the sea of Jungmun. They are rock pillars shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes and almost seem as if stonemasons had carved them out. The administration of the district named them 'Jisatgae Rocks' from their old name 'Jisatgae'. The 20m cliff makes it a popular spot for high tide and sea angling.
Jeju Island
Jeju Island is the largest island in South Korea, located in the Jeju Province. The island lies in the Korea Strait, below the Korean Peninsula, south of the South Jeolla Province. The island contains the natural world heritage site, Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes. Jeju has a moderate climate; even in winter, the temperature rarely falls below 0 °C. Jeju is a popular holiday destination and a sizable portion of the economy relies on tourism and economic activity from its civil/naval base.
Oedolgae Rock
About 2 km away to the west of Seogwipo City there is Sammaebong Parsitic Volcano and Oedolgae Rock, which stands on a beautiful shore near the mountain, and was formed when a volcano erupted and changed the island’s landscape about 150,000 years ago. Since it is a strong rock carved by wave erosion, it is called a sea stack. At the peak of the island, there are pine trees that are regenerating.
Sanbangsan Mountain
Sanbangsan Mountain is a trachytic tuff lava dome connected to the sedimentary layer of the Yongmeori Coast in the coast of Sagye-ri, Andeok-myeon. It is a bell-shaped thalloid that stands tall in the plains of southwest Jeju, allowing it to be seen from anywhere in the area. It is encircled by Ilju Road, which connects Moseulpo Port and Hwasun-ri. Well-maintained stairs are available so that tourists can climb up to Sanbanggulsa Grotto, which stands at the southern face of Namsa-myeon.
The Yongmeori Coast
The Yongmeori Coast got its name because the beach looks like a dragon that is jumping into the ocean with its head raised (“Yong” means dragon and “Meori” means head in Korean). Yongmeori is a sandstone bed created by layers of sand that have been deposited for tens of millions of years. The mysterious scenery of the coast is enough to make anyone who witnesses it exclaim in wonder.
Yakcheonsa Temple
Yakcheonsa is a Buddhist temple of the Jogye Order on Jeju island. The story of the founding of Yakcheonsa Temple is unknown as there are no remaining records. During the Unified Silla era, there was a big international temple called Beophwasa located halfway up Mt. Hallasan, which is not far from the temple, and its associated hermitages would have been scattered nearby. Yakcheonsa Temple is located on a site where a mineral water spring flows from the ground year-round. Long before 1982, when the temple was established, Yaksuam Hermitage was located there. According to some records, Ven. Bang Donghwa stayed at the hermitage in the Jungmun area for a while to recover his health after he was released from prison. He was imprisoned in 1918 because of his involvement with the anti-Japanese independence movement initiated by the Jejudo religious community.
