Davao
Davao City, on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, is a coastal commercial center near 2,954m-high Mount Apo, the country’s highest peak. In the city center, People’s Park is known for its colorful indigenous sculptures and lighted fountains. It's also home to Durian Dome, named after the pungent, spiky fruit that grows in abundance on Mindanao. The Davao River cuts through the city.
Davao City Hall
Davao was incorporated as a part of Moro Province from 1903 to 1914. When the province was dissolved in 1914, it led to the establishment of Davao Province, with Davao town as its provincial capital. What is now the city's Legislative Council Building served as the provincial capitol. It was built in 1926, the same year the Davao Municipal Hall, now the City Hall, was constructed. Davao City Hall was established in 1926 as the Municipal Hall when it was still a town.
Davao Crocodile Park
Small zoo & crocodile farm with outdoor habitats, live wildlife shows & educational exhibits.
Durian Candy Factory
It all started in the modest kitchen of Abundia del Puerto Vda. De Raakin, popularly known as “Abon” to her closely knit family. She hails from Cagayan de Oro City. With just 6 cans of condensed milk, cooked in slow fire and stirred continuously comes a creamy delight called “pastillas de leche”. This was way back in the 1950’s. Abon by then, was a young widow who has to raise 6 children on her own. She sold these neatly and beautifully wrapped sweets to employees of government offices on foot. She diligently went from one office to another, often tagging along her grandson Roberto. One day, a very close friend of Abon, suggested to add durian as flavoring since Davao is where this king of the fruits grow abundantly. She heeded to the suggestion, and so was born the “durian yema”, intricately wrapped in immaculately white “papel de hapon”.
Long Hua Temple
The Longhua Temple, also known as the Lon Wa Buddhist Temple is one of the biggest Buddhist temples in the Philippines and the biggest in the island of Mindanao. It is located in the Agdao District, 3-4 kilometers northeast of the center of Davao City at Cabagiuo Avenue.
Museo Dabawenyo
Opened in 2008, this museum & gallery focuses on the people, history, art & culture of Davao.
Oboza Heritage House
An excellent example of adaptive reuse—this landmark in Davao City has found new life as a restaurant that serves good food. One can’t miss it: a white wooden house with a well-maintained garden, in a sprawling area located at a busy intersection. The walls of the Oboza Heritage House, as it is called, have sheltered visiting Philippine presidents, a fugitive senator hiding from Japanese soldiers during World War II, and many other prominent figures in the political life and history of the province of Davao.
Osmeña Park
Small park offering whimsical animal sculptures, monuments, trees & park benches. Formerly known as the Plaza, Osmeña Park is one of the most frequented public parks in Davao City. This historical landmark was once the site of settlement of the early Davaoeños. The park is located next to the Sangguniang Panglunsod ng Dabaw (City Council) Building, at the corner of Claro M. Recto Avenue and San Pedro Street.
People’s Park Davao
People's Park is an urban public park in central Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines. This park is the mostly attractive place in Davao, very relaxing not polluted.
Puentespina Orchid garden
The company divides its activities into four production areas. Puentespina Orchid Gardens, located in Davao City, is where the garden center, offices, and the laboratory are located. It is also here that Waling’s famous seedlings and plantlets are hardened.
San Pedro Cathedral
The Saint Peter Metropolitan Cathedral, also referred to as the San Pedro Cathedral or Davao Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located at Barangay Poblacion District, Davao City, Philippines. The cathedral, dedicated to Saint Peter, is the ecclesiastical seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Davao.
