Highlights

Cairns
Cairns considered the gateway to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, is a city in tropical Far North Queensland. Its Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park tells the stories of indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with music and dance. Cairns Esplanade, lined with bars and restaurants, has a swimming lagoon. Northwest of the city, Daintree National Park spans mountainous rainforest, gorges, and beaches.
Curtain Fig National park
This park protects a small area of an endangered type of forest, called mabi forest (also called complex notophyll vine forest or type 5b forest). 'Mabi' comes from the Ngadjon word for the Lumholtz's tree-kangaroo. This forest type has several unique features, most notably the semi-deciduous canopy trees, which allow more than the usual amount of light to penetrate to the forest floor. This in turn supports a well-developed shrub layer. It is endangered because most of this type of forest has been cleared for farming.
Lake Barrine
Lake Barrine is a freshwater lake on the eastern parts of Atherton Tableland in the locality of Lake Barrine, in the Tablelands Region of Far North Queensland, Australia, close to Lake Eacham. The lake and surrounds are protected within the Crater Lakes National Park and are accessible via the Gillies Highway.
Mabi rainforest
Mabi forests are a type of ecological community found in the Australian state of Queensland which is considered to be critically endangered and which consists of remnant patches found only either in North Queensland's Atherton Tablelands or at Shiptons Flat along the Annan River.
Millaa Millaa Waterfall
Millaa Millaa Falls is a heritage-listed plunge waterfall at Theresa Creek Road, Millaa Millaa, Tablelands Region, Queensland, Australia. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 5 December 2005. The falls are adjacent to the town of Millaa Millaa on the Atherton Tableland.
Mount Hypipamee National Park
Located high on the southern Evelyn Tableland, in the Hugh Nelson Range, this park is centred around a diatreme or volcanic pipe, thought to have been created by a massive gas explosion. A platform at the end of a 400m walking track through the rainforest provides an uninterrupted view of the remaining crater. The crater is almost 70m across with sheer granite walls (the surface rock through which the gas exploded). Fifty-eight metres below the rim is a lake over 70m deep, covered with a green layer of native waterweed.
Peterson Creek – Wildlife & Botanical Walking Track
Peterson Creek Wildlife & Botanical Walking Track is located in the heart of Yungaburra where you may be able to view platypus, a rare Lumholtz Tree-Kangaroo, the unique ‘Lloyd’s Suspension Bridge’, historical objects, and more. The track is 2.3 km starting from the Platypus Viewing Platform, Gillies Highway Yungaburra.
