Highlights

Erk Gala
Erk-Kala was the center of ancient Merv. The fortifications of Erk-Kala have sagged under earth drifts but nevertheless, have preserved their height and power. This distinguishes Erk-Kala from other fortresses. Now the height of the fortifications with steep slopes and precisely cut out towers reaches 25 - 29 m.
Great Kyz Kala
The Great Kyz Kala is a monumental mudbrick, fortified-building, one of a number of similar structures known as köshks, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Merv, Turkmenistan.
Gyaur-Kala
"The Fortress of Infidels" – this is how the name of this ancient settlement is translated. This fortress was built approximately in the 4th century BC. Its ten-metre walls impress with the power. They surround ruins of two citadels that presumably could be a temple and palace constructions.
Keshk Fortresses
Kharam-keshk is a single castle of dehkhan estate near Gyaur-Kala. It used to be a dwelling house in the 9th-13th centuries.
Mary
Mary, formerly named Merv, Meru, and Margiana, is a city on an oasis in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, located on the Murgab River. It is the capital city of Mary Region. In 2009, Mary had a population of 123,000, up from 92,000 in the 1989 census. The ruins of the ancient city of Merv are located near the city.
Minor Kyz Kala
Minor Kyz-Kala stands approximately a hundred meters to the south from Major Kyz-Kala; its layout was the same but it has survived in far worse condition. The corrugated facade can be seen only on the eastern side of the structure.
