Highlights

Fukuoka
Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture, situated on the northern shore of the Japanese island of Kyushu. It is the most populous city on the island, followed by Kitakyushu. It is the largest city and metropolitan area west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on April 1, 1972, by government ordinance. Greater Fukuoka, with a population of 2.5 million people, is part of the heavily industrialized Fukuoka–Kitakyushu zone.
Fukuoka Castle
Fukuoka Castle is a Japanese castle located in Chūō-ku, Fukuoka, Japan. It is also known as Maizuru Castle or Seki Castle. Completed in the early Edo period for tozama daimyō Kuroda Nagamasa, it has been decreed a historic site by the Japanese government. The castle lies in the center of Fukuoka, on top of Fukusaki hill. The Naka River, Naka-gawa in Japanese, acts as a natural moat on the eastern side of the castle, while the western side uses a mudflat as a natural moat. Hakata, award with a bustling port, is located on the opposite side of the Naka River to the east. The castle town was established on the northern side, facing the sea.
Kushida Shrine

Ōhori Park
Ōhori Park is a park in Chūō-ku, Fukuoka, Japan, and a registered Place of Scenic Beauty. The name Ōhori means a large moat and it derives from the fact that Kuroda Nagamasa, the old lord of Fukuoka, reclaimed the northern half of a cove or an inlet called Kusagae which was facing Hakata Bay and made a moat for the Fukuoka Castle. At the same time the Hii (Tajima) River, which was flowing into the cove, was diverted from its course to the west. The present park was reconstructed by Fukuoka City, modeled on the West Lake of China, and opened in 1929. A fireworks festival is held here every August.
Tochoji Temple
Tōchō-ji is a Shingon temple in Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan. It was founded by Kūkai in 806, making it the oldest Shingon temple in Kyushu. According to tradition, Kūkai or Kobo-Daishi set up this temple when he came back from China and prayed for the eastward dissemination of Tantric Buddhism. It was originally situated in the seaside area. After it burned down at the end of the 16th century it was relocated to the present site by Kuroda Tadayuki, the second lord of Chikuzen province. The second, the third, and the eighth lord of the Kuroda family are buried here.
Yusentei Park
Yusentei Park is a park in Jōnan-ku, Fukuoka, Japan. It was originally built in the mid-Edo period (1754) for Kuroda Tsugutaka, the 6th domain head of the Kuroda clan. It was named Yūsentei after a later lord's tanka poetry. The park has a garden and a pond and is open to the public.
