Highlights

Akrotiri
The Akrotiri peninsula has a series of pebble coves formed from volcanic rock, including the renowned Red Beach, with striking cliffs stained by iron ore. Akrotiri Lighthouse is noted for its sunset views, and the remains at Akrotiri Prehistoric Village date back to Minoan times. Chic hillside guesthouses and beach apartments overlook seafood tavernas, dive centers, and tour-boat operators along the shore.
Akrotiri Lighthouse
Akrotiri Lighthouse is a 19th-century lighthouse on the Greek island of Santorini. The lighthouse was built by a French company in 1892, making the lighthouse one of the oldest in Greece. The lighthouse ceased operating during World War II. The Greek Navy recommissioned the lighthouse in 1945.
Santorini
Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.
Thera (Fira)
Fira is the capital of Santorini, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira displays items from the destroyed Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri, including wall paintings and ceramics. Nearby, the whitewashed Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral has frescoes by local artist Christoforos Asimis. Fira’s clifftop location affords views of Nea Kameni, a still-active volcanic island to the west.
