Highlights

Beppu City
Beppu is a city in Ōita Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan, at the west end of Beppu Bay. The total area is 125.13 km2. Beppu is famous for its hot springs. Beppu is situated between the sea and the mountains. The city was founded on April 1, 1924, and is famous for its onsen (hot springs). It has eight major geothermal hot spots, sometimes referred to as the "eight hells of Beppu". Six of these are located close by within the Kannawa district up the hill, and two are in the nearby Shibaseki district down the hill. Beppu is also divided into eight major hot spring areas known as Beppu Hattō.
Beppu Onsen
Beppu Onsen is a group of hot springs in the city of Beppu. Beppu Onsen is divided into eight major hot spring areas known as "Beppu Hatto". The most significant characteristic of Beppu's hot springs is the richness of its resources. The volume of water discharged is second only to that of the Yellowstone National Park in the United States. There are 2,909 hot spring vents within the city, and these account for more than 10% of the 27,644 hot spring vents in Japan, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment in 2004. Statistics from the Beppu City Hall show that more than 130,000 tons of hot spring water gush from the ground every day. This is the second-largest amount of hot spring water discharge in the world, and the largest amount in Japan.
Blood Pond Hell
Blood Pond Hell, in the hot spring town of Beppu, is a spring that is blood red. It has existed for over 1,300 years, and its color is said to be a result of some chemical reaction occurring underground.
Fukuoka
Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture, situated on the northern shore of the Japanese island of Kyushu. It is the most populous city on the island, followed by Kitakyushu. It is the largest city and metropolitan area west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on April 1, 1972, by government ordinance. Greater Fukuoka, with a population of 2.5 million people, is part of the heavily industrialized Fukuoka–Kitakyushu zone.
Kinrin Lake
Lake Kinrin is located in Yufuin Onsen within Oita Prefecture, and the name Kinrin means "Golden Fish Scale". The source of this name is the fish swimming in the lake whose scales appear like golden sparkles when the sun sets. Lake Kinrin’s special feature is that from the bottom of the lake there is a regular spring as well as a hot spring that feed water into the lake. For this reason, during the cool fall and winter mornings you can watch and enjoy the wondrous morning mist hanging over the lake surface.
Myoban Onsen
One of eight hot spring resorts nestled in the hills above Beppu City, Myoban Onsen is famous for its health benefits and sulfurous smell that seeps out from the ground. Many hot springs offer both indoor and outdoor baths.
Ocean Hell pond
One of the more beautiful hells, Ocean hell features a pond of boiling, blue water. In its spacious gardens, there are a few smaller, orange colored hells and a clear water pond with lotus flowers whose large leaves are strong enough to carry small children.
Yufuin town
Yufuin was a town located in Ōita District, Ōita Prefecture, Japan. Yufuin is now a district within the city of Yufu. Its elevation is approximately 400 meters above ground.
