Overview
The Golden Circle is a day tour in the south of Iceland which covers around 300km, looping from the capital, Reykjavík, into central Iceland and back. You'll travel from Reykjavík to Thingvellir National Park, a location of historical significance and a national park due to its unique geology and natural features.

Highlights
Faxi Waterfall
The Faxi (or Vatnsleysufoss) waterfall is located on the Golden Circle, a popular tourist trail east of Reykjavik. The waterfall is located on the Tungufljót river.
Faxi can be found around twelve kilometres from Geysir and Gullfoss, and eight kilometres from Skalholt, away from the main road on a gravel track which includes a picnic area and a small car park.
The waterfall is full of salmon and is a popular spot for fishing, and very close to the waterfall is a restaurant called Vid Faxa.
Kayaking in the waterfall is forbidden.
Gullfoss waterfall
Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland.
During the first half of the 20th century and some years into the late 20th century, there was much speculation about using Gullfoss to generate electricity. During this period, the waterfall was rented indirectly by its owners, Tómas Tómasson and Halldór Halldórsson, to foreign investors. However, the investors' attempts were unsuccessful, partly due to lack of money. The waterfall was later sold to the state of Iceland, and is now protected.
Haukadalur
Haukadalur is a valley in Iceland. It lies to the north of Laugarvatn lake in the south of Iceland.
Reykjavik
Reykjavik, on the coast of Iceland, is the country's capital and largest city. It's home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history. The striking concrete Hallgrimskirkja church and rotating Perlan glass dome offer sweeping views of the sea and nearby hills. Exemplifying the island’s volcanic activity is the geothermal Blue Lagoon spa, near the village of Grindavik.
Strokkur
Strokkur is a fountain-type geyser located in a geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in Iceland in the southwest part of the country, east of Reykjavík. It typically erupts every 6–10 minutes. Its usual height is 15–20 metres, although it can sometimes erupt up to 40 metres high.

Thingvallavatn
Þingvallavatn, anglicized as Thingvallavatn, is a rift valley lake in southwestern Iceland. With a surface of 84 km² it is the second-largest natural lake in Iceland. Its greatest depth is 114 m.
Thingvellir National Park
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is a historic site and national park in Iceland, east of Reykjavík. It's known for the Alþing (Althing), the site of Iceland's parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. On the site are the Þingvellir Church and the ruins of old stone shelters. The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, with rocky cliffs and fissures like the huge Almannagjá fault.
