Highlights

Hornstrandir
Hornstrandir is Iceland's northernmost peninsula, covering 580 km2 at the northern end of the Westfjords, to the north of the Jökulfirðir, and to the northwest of Drangajökull glacier.
Latrar Air Station
Latrar Air Station is a closed the United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 153.2 miles (246.6 km) north of Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. It was closed on 28 June 2006 as part of the closure of the United States military facilities in Iceland.
Straumnesfjall
Straumnesfjall is a mountain above Aðalvík in Hornstrandir. From the village of Látrar, there is an old road that leads you up to the mountain. During the years of 1953-1956, the American army built a radar station on top of the mountain and serviced the army for about 10 years. Now there are only wrecked houses, roads, and flatlands that used to serve as an airport that tells the story of the American army in Hornstrandir.
