Overview

Thousand Island Lake, also known as Qiandao Lake in Chinese literally means a lake with thousands of islands. A wide view of the mountains, the terraced tea fields, and the emerald green water of the river are waiting for you in the Thousand Island Lake area. If you are a fan of Oolong teas, you will appreciate the hard work of the local people. When visiting the scenic areas of Thousand Island Lake, it is hard not to notice the terraced fields of tea that grow on almost every mountainside. For tourists who want to experience Taiwan’s tea culture, a tour of this region in conjunction with nearby will offer a great authentic experience.

Highlights

Beishi River
The Beishi River is a river in northern Taiwan. It flows through New Taipei City and Yilan County for 50 kilometers (31 mi). It is one of the tributaries of Xindian River. The river is impounded by the Fetsui Reservoir in Shiding District, New Taipei City. The Beishi River Historical Trail is a 2.6-kilometre trail that offers views of the river.
Pinglin District
Pinglin District is a rural district of southeastern New Taipei, Taiwan. It is the third-largest district of New Taipei City and it is located in the mountainous area bordering Yilan County. Pinglin is part of the water district of the greater Taipei area as the Feicui Dam is located in the neighboring Shiding District, so land development is restricted. Pinglin is most known for producing pouchong tea. The Pinglin Tea Museum is the world's largest tea museum. Over 80% of its residents are tea growers or are involved in the tea business.
Pinglin Tea Museum
The Ping-Lin Tea Museum, also spelled Pinglin Tea Museum, is a museum located in the hills of Pinglin District, New Taipei, Taiwan. It is one of the world's largest tea museums. Ping-Lin is renowned for producing Pouchong tea. The picking of the "spring tea" starts around the end of March.
Qiandao Lake
Qiandao Lake (pinyin: Qiāndǎo Hú; lit. 'Thousand Island Lake'), a human-made, freshwater lake located in Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province, China, was formed after the completion of the Xin'an River hydroelectric station in 1959. 1,078 large islands dot the lake and a few thousand smaller ones are scattered across it. Over 90% of the area is forested. The islands in the lake include Bird Island, Snake Island, Monkey Island, Lock Island (featuring supposedly the world's biggest lock), and the Island to Remind You of Your Childhood. The lake covers an area of 573 km2 (221 sq mi) and has a storage capacity of 17.8 km3 (4.3 cu mi). The islands in the lake cover about 86 km2 (33 sq mi). The valley was flooded in 1959 to create the lake for the Xin'an River Dam project.
Taipei
Taipei, officially Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, ROC). Located in northern Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km southwest of the northern port city of Keelung. Most of the city lies in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.
