Highlights

Cijin Island
Cijin or Qijin Island is a small and narrow island about 10-15 minutes away by ferry from Kaohsiung harbor. It’s a popular day trip destination known for its long stretch of black sand beach, its historical and religious structures, and some of the best seafood in Kaohsiung. It’s a laid-back island that invites you to ride around aimlessly on bicycles, take off your shoes and walk along the beach, or just sit at bar drinking beers and enjoying the vibe.
Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung is a massive port city in southern Taiwan. It's home to many skyscrapers, such as the 248m-tall Tuntex Sky Tower, and is known for its diversity of parks. Its focal point is the Love River, with walking paths and cafes along its banks, and cruise boats navigating its waters. Shopping options range from high-end malls to the Liuhe and Ruifeng night markets.
Kaohsiung Central Park
Central Park is a park in Cianjin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The park is an oasis of greenery in the midst of a heavily built-up urban area. Central Park includes Kaohsiung Literature Library, Scenic Lake, Middle Island, Speech Square, Water Square, Hedgerow Labyrinth and Outdoor Terrace. Water Square offers 20-minute-long "water dances" several times a day.
Kaohsiung Martyrs' Shrine
The Kaohsiung Martyrs' Shrine is a martyrs' shrine in Gushan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The site was originally established as Takao Kotohira Shrine during the Japanese rule of Taiwan in 1910 dedicated to Omononushi-no-Mikoto and Emperor Sutoku. In 1920, the government of Takao Prefecture applied to the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office central government in Taihoku Prefecture for additional worshipping of Prince Yoshihisa and renamed the shrine as Takao Shrine. In 1926, upon acquisition of land on the hillside of Shoushan, fundraising was underway for the Shrine relocation, which was completed in 1929 and received the Kensha rank in 1932, officially listed in the Japanese state Shinto system.
Kaohsiung Museum of History
Kaohsiung Museum of History is a museum located in Yancheng District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is administered by the Kaohsiung City Government. The building of the museum was originally the Kaohsiung City Hall. It was designed by Japanese architect Oono Yonezirou, working with the Shimizu Corporation under the Japanese government, and completed in 1939. After 1945, the city hall was renamed to Kaohsiung Municipal Government. On 18 January 1992, the municipal government moved to Union Office Building and the old building was turned into the Kaohsiung Museum of History which was opened on 25 October 1998.
Kaohsiung Rainbow Church
The Rainbow Church is located on Cijing Island. The beach and the ocean in the background and the waters surrounding the Rainbow Church make it the perfect setting for selfies or group photos with friends. It has a pink cross symbol on the alter, but many will argue it is not really a “church.” Rather, they are impressions of a church. Ultimately, the Rainbow Church is really what you make of it and what is meaningful and personal to you. Architecturally, the square nave is more identifiable, while the alter is more abstract. Here are some photos of real churches and cathedrals to compare.
Lotus Pond
Lotus Pond is an artificial lake and popular tourist destination on the east side of Zuoying District in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Opened in 1951, it is famous for the lotus plants on the lake and the numerous temples around the lake, including the Spring and Autumn Pavilions, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and the Confucian Temple. Lotus Pond was the site for several water sporting events for World Games 2009, including canoe polo, water ski, and dragon boat.
Pier-2 Art Center
The Pier-2 Art Center is an art center in Yancheng District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The arts center was originally an abandoned warehouse site due to Kaohsiung's shift from an industrial city to service city. The warehouses were built in 1973. Due to the persistence of local artists, the area was finally released and remade to be an arts center. In 2006, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs of Kaohsiung City Government and under the management of the Kaohsiung Pier-2 Art Development Association and Shu-Te University's art development workshop took over the center, starting a series of exhibitions.
