Highlights

Holy Cross Monastery (Omodos)
The monastery was founded following the discovery of the cross at this spot by residents of neighboring villages Ano and Kato Koupetra (which are no longer in existence today), and is said to have begun as a small chapel which garnered a gathering of several monks, resulting in its transformation into a magnificent monastery. Τhe Monastery was established before St. Helen’s arrival in Cyprus in 327 AD and various historians of Cyprus, such as Neofytos Rodinos, Russian monk and traveler Barsky, Dean Kyprianos and others, make reference to St. Helen’s visit to Cyprus and to the fact that she left a part of the Holy Rope and the Holy Rood in the Monastery.
Laneia
Laneia is a village at the foot of Mount Troodos on the main Limassol to Troodos road, about 26 km from Limassol in the country of Cyprus. Lania is one of the country's main wine-producing villages. According to tradition, Lania got its name from Lana, daughter of the Greek god of wine and pleasure, Dionysos.
Limassol
Limassol is a city on the southern coast of Cyprus. It’s known for the centuries-old Limassol Castle, home to the Cyprus Medieval Museum and its collection of pottery and tombstones. On the seafront is the Prokymea (Molos) Sculpture Park, with sculptures by Cypriot, Greek and international artists. To the northeast is the Limassol Archaeological Museum, exhibiting artifacts from the Neolithic to the Roman periods.
Omodhos
Omodos is a village in the Troödos Mountains of Cyprus. It is also located in the Limassol District of Cyprus and is 80 kilometers from the city of Nicosia. The village produces a lot of wine and holds a wine festival every August.

Itinerary

10:00

You’ll take a drive from Limassol through the nearby Phassouri citrus plantations, where the air is filled with the sweets scents of lemons and limes. Then you’ll continue up the lower mountain foothills to the picturesque village of Omodhos.

Here, you’ll start your visit at the large cobbled village square which is dominated by the impressive Monastery of the Holy Cross. Inside, you’ll have the chance to view the precious relics donated by St Helena that are said to come from the Crucifixion. After visiting the Monastery, take the short stroll to see the traditional wine press (called “linos” in Cyprus) where your guide will explain how wine was made in the old-fashioned way.

Omodhos offers a great opportunity for shoppers. The village square is surrounded by many small stores selling souvenirs, lace and embroidery, wine and traditional local products. You’ll have plenty of time to browse and buy souvenirs and memories from your time on the island.

Your tour continues to Lania, an atmospheric village with a pretty church, where you’ll enjoy a short walking tour and many opportunities for photographs along its pretty lanes.

Then your drive back through the rolling hills towards the port at Limassol offers beautiful panoramic views of the sweep of the bay.
