The peaceful calm of St Kitts hides an extraordinary history which you will explore on this leisurely tour of Basseterre and the surrounding area. Hugely influenced by the English who first settled here in 1623 your tour begins with an easy drive through the island’s capital to visit some of the main attractions including the Berkeley Memorial, The Circus, and Independence square. The memorial is an exact replica of the clock in Piccadilly Circus and Independence Square was originally called Pall Mall Square. From Basseterre, you will head onto the scenic Island Main Road which is surrounded by lush green hills and impressive mountains.
Your first major stop will be the haunting site of Bloody Point where over 2000 Caribs were massacred by British and French troops in 1626. Bloody Point provides for a wonderful photographic vantage point of Mount Liamuga, the highest point on the island. Up next is Romney Manor, once owned by Samuel Jefferson, the great-great-great-grandfather of US president Thomas Jefferson. No tour of St Kitts is complete without a tour of this impressive –once a plantation and its pristine gardens. The manor also boats A Caribelle Batik factory where everything from casual wear to unique gift items is available to purchase as a wonderful reminder of your time on St Kitts.
The final part of your tour gives you the chance to relax and reflect as you arrive at the Carambola Beach Club. Here you have a couple of hours in which you can have lunch, swim in the clear waters, or simply hire a sunbed and soak up the warm rays of the Caribbean Sun!
