Guangzhou
Guangzhou is the capital and the sub-provincial city of Guangdong Province in the southern part of the People's Republic of China. The city is also known by an older English-language name, Canton. It is a port on the Pearl River, navigable to the South China Sea, and is located about 120 km (75 miles) northwest of Hong Kong. As of the 2000 census, the city has a population of 6 million, and a metropolitan population of roughly 8.5 million (though some estimates are as high as 12.6 million) making it the most populous city in the province and the third most populous metropolitan area in mainland China.
Mt Dinghu
Mountain Dinghu is 18 kilometer away from the Zhaoqing city proper. Reputed as the Emerald on the Tropic of Cancer, it is one of the first batch of national natural reserves. It got its name from the lake on the top of the mountain which looks like a tripod. Mountain Dinghu ranks first among the four famed mountains on the south of the Five Ridges. On the mountain there is the Temple of White Clouds which is 1000 years old, as well as the very popular Temple of Qingyun.
Qingyun Temple
Qingyun Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Dinghu District, Zhaoqing, Guangdong, China. The temple traces its origins to the former Lianhua'an , founded by Shi Zaisan in 1633 and would later become Qingyun Temple in 1636. In 1635, Shi Qihe was invited to serve as abbot. He supervised the construction of the temple. After completing in 1636, the temple had over 100 halls and buildings and a total area of 12,000-metre (39,000 ft). In 1649, Emperor Yongli of the Southern Ming dynasty and his mother visited the temple. In 1670, Shang Zhixiao, son of Shang Kexi, donated property to establish the dining hall, Drum tower and Bell tower. Qingyun Temple was devastated by wars in 1860, during the Xianfeng era. A fire in 1916 destroyed most of the buildings.
Seven Star Crags
The Seven Star Crags are located across from the center of Zhaoqing City, Guangdong, People's Republic of China. The crags are all situated in or around Star Lake directly across from Paifang square in downtown Zhaoqing. The area including the crags and Star Lake compromise 8 km2. The lake is partitioned into five separate sections divided with small strips of land and walkways. They form one of the most scenic locations in the province and are one of the main tourist draws of the city, the other being Dinghu Mountain. The crags are many times referred to as the little Guilin due to their striking visual similarity to Guilin's mountains.
Zhaoqing
Zhaoqing is located in the west-central region of Guangdong Province, at the middle and lower reaches of Xijiang River. Adjacent to the Pearl River Delta, the city borders Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the northwest, Foshan to the southeast and Yunfu to the southwest. It lies about 90 kilometers (56 miles) from Guangzhou. Known as the capital of inkstone in China, Zhangqing produces first-rate Duan Inkstand, one of China’s Four Famous Inkstones, which boasts for its solid, smooth and delicate quality. The speed of producing ink by using Duan Inkstone is fast and the ink is fine and smooth. And the color of the handwriting is constant for a long time. Zhaoqing also features breathtaking natural scenery and city walls built in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).
