Highlights

Amalfi
Amalfi is a town in a dramatic natural setting below steep cliffs on Italy’s southwest coast. Between the 9th and 11th centuries, it was the seat of a powerful maritime republic. The Arab-Norman Sant'Andrea cathedral at the heart of town, with its striped Byzantine facade, survives from this era. The Museo Arsenale Amalfi is a medieval shipyard-turned-exhibition space.
Amalfi Drive
The Amalfi Drive (formally Strada Statale 163) is the conventional name of a section of road which runs along the stretch of the Amalfi Coast between the southern Italian towns of Sorrento and Amalfi. The road was originally built by the Romans. The drive between Salerno, at the southern base of the peninsula, and Positano follows the coast for about 80 km (50 mi). For the greater part of its route, the road is carved out of the side of the coastal cliffs, giving views down to the Tyrrhenian Sea and on the other side up to the cliffs above. The road passes through the village of Positano, which is built on the side of the hill. Both the village and the whole drive are tourist attractions in the area.
Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about 9 km east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is one of several volcanoes which form the Campanian volcanic arc
Naples
Naples, a city in southern Italy, sits on the Bay of Naples. Nearby is Mount Vesuvius, the still-active volcano that destroyed nearby Roman town Pompeii. Dating to the 2nd millennium B.C., Naples has centuries of important art and architecture. The city's cathedral, the Duomo di San Gennaro, is filled with frescoes. Other major landmarks include the lavish Royal Palace and Castel Nuovo, a 13th-century castle.
Positano
Positano is a cliffside village on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast. It's a well-known holiday destination with a pebble beachfront and steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes. Its Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta features a majolica-tiled dome and a 13th-century Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary. The Sentiero degli Dei hiking trail links Positano to other coastal towns.
Ruins of Pompeii
Pompeii, Italian Pompei, preserved ancient Roman city in Campania, Italy, 14 miles (23 km) southeast of Naples, at the southeastern base of Mount Vesuvius. It was built on a spur formed by a prehistoric lava flow to the north of the mouth of the Sarnus (modern Sarno) River.
Salerno
Salerno is an ancient city and comune in Campania (southwestern Italy) and is the capital of the province of the same name. It is located on the Gulf of Salerno on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The city is divided into three distinct zones: the medieval sector, the 19th-century sector, and the more densely populated post-war area, with its several apartment blocks.
Sorrento
Sorrento is a coastal town in southwestern Italy, facing the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula. Perched atop cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas, it’s known for sweeping water views and Piazza Tasso, a cafe-lined square. The historic center is a warren of narrow alleys that's home to the Chiesa di San Francesco, a 14th-century church with a tranquil cloister.

Itinerary

08:00

On arrival in Pompeii, your English-speaking guide will take you on a two-hour tour of the famous ruins and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn all about the lost city buried by the ash of Mount Vesuvius following its catastrophic eruption in 79 AD. Your guide will be on hand to give you all the information on what is arguably Europe’s most compelling archaeological site.

After the visit to Pompeii, there will be a little free time for you to use the restroom, get a coffee or do a little souvenir shopping.

The tour will continue with a beautiful drive down the Amalfi Coast, along what is said to be one of the most spectacular coastal roads in Europe. There will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way and you will be able to view the cliffside village of Positano from above (please note: this tour does not enter the town of Positano).

Finally, the tour will stop in Sorrento, a beautiful town straddling the cliffs overlooking the water to Naples and Mount Vesuvius. There will be free time to explore the area, visit the souvenir shops and sample the local produce of Sorrento – an area famous for its lemons and the production of the digestif, Limoncello.

The tour will end with a drive back to the port of Salerno which will take approximately 90 minutes, leaving plenty of time for your cruise ship departure.
