Highlights

Berlin
Berlin, the German capital, is renowned for its exceptional variety of attractions, its flourishing cultural scene and a way of life that's both fast-paced and relaxed. Contrasts between historical buildings and modern architecture, between the traditional and the modern are what set the city apart from the rest. The sights of Berlin – from the Brandenburg Gate to the Federal Chancellery – tell the story of an entire nation.
Berlin Cathedral
Pompous yet majestic, the Italian Renaissance–style former royal court church (1905) does triple duty as house of worship, museum and concert hall. Inside it's gilt to the hilt and outfitted with a lavish marble-and-onyx altar, a 7269-pipe Sauer organ and elaborate royal sarcophagi. Climb up the 267 steps to the gallery for glorious city views. For more dead royals, albeit in less extravagant coffins, drop below to the crypt. Skip the cathedral museum unless you’re interested in the building’s construction. The sanctuary has great acoustics and is often used for classical concerts, sometimes played on the famous Sauer organ.
Berlin Central Station
Berlin Central Station is the central hub for all rail traffic in the capital. Here inter-city and regional trains connect with Berlin's local rail, underground, tram and bus network.
Berlin Victory Column
Like arms of a starfish, five roads merge into the Grosser Stern roundabout at the heart of the huge Tiergarten park. The Victory Column at its centre celebrates 19th-century Prussian military triumphs and is crowned by a gilded statue of the goddess Victoria. Climb 285 steps for sweeping views of the park. The column originally stood in front of the Reichstag until the Nazis moved it here in 1938 to make room for their Germania urban planning project. The pedestal was added at the time, bringing the column height to 67m.
Berlin Wall
Berlin was a divided city for nearly thirty years – a city with a wall running through its very heart. From 13 August 1961 until 9 November 1989, the Berlin Wall divided the city into East and West Berlin. Today, all across the city you can find traces of the Wall, its remains and memorial sites – the East Side Gallery, the Berlin Wall Memorial in Bernauer Strasse, the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial, a former Stasi remand prison, and the green Mauerpark.
Konzerthaus Berlin
The Konzerthaus Berlin is a concert hall in Berlin and home of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. Situated on the Gendarmenmarkt square in the central Mitte district of the city, it was originally built as a theatre. It operated from 1818 to 1821 under the name of the Schauspielhaus Berlin, later as the Theater am Gendarmenmarkt and Komödie. It became a concert hall after the Second World War, and its name changed to its present one in 1994.

Itinerary

08:00

When you arrive in Berlin, where you will meet your guide and private transportation ready to start your private tour of Berlin

You will continue through the western half of Berlin to see the beautiful Kurfürstendamm shopping street, the famous Kadewe department store, and the bombed-out Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The next stop is the central part of the city, the Tiergarten, where you will pass the monumental Victory Column and get a chance to see the German president’s official residence, Schloss Bellevue.

As your tour continues into the federal government district, you’ll get a chance to stretch your legs whilst taking a closer look at the German parliament, the Reichstag building, before heading on to the nearby Brandenburg Gate for a photo opportunity on Berlin’s most famous square, Pariser Platz. A short walk past the US embassy and you’ll arrive at the unforgettable Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the adjacent site of Hitler’s bunker before getting back on the bus.

At this point, you’ll have the chance to take a lunch break to sample the local cuisine.

But the tour’s not over yet! You’ve still got the Berlin Wall, the historic Cold War crossing point at Checkpoint Charlie, and the former site of the SS and Gestapo Headquarters (now a museum called the Topography of Terror) to see. The former royal quarter of the city, the beautiful former French quarter of the city, and the Gendarmenmarkt square, the infamous Nazi Book Burning square, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Museum Island are also all on the agenda for the afternoon portion of your tour.

Depending on how much time has left the tour can continue to the East Side Gallery and/or the former Jewish Quarter of town which has now become the art district of Berlin.

At the end of the day, your bus will bring you back to your ship!

Time will be allowed for lunch (not included within the tour price)
