Overview

This fantastic tour will start with a visit to Lama Temple, which means the Palace of Peace and Harmony. It was once the residence of Qing Dynasty Emperor Yongzheng during his days as the crown prince, who converted it into a lamasery after he ascended the throne. It combines the architecture of Han, Manchurian, Mongolian, and Tibetan. You will find the most treasured statue in the last of the major halls, Wanfuge (which means Tower of Ten Thousand feelings of Happiness). Inside, the Tibetan-style statue of Maitreya (the future Buddha) is carved from a single piece of white sand wood and was transported all the way from far Tibet to this location as a gift to Emperor Qianlong from the seventh Dalai Lama.
