Lanyang Museum
The Lanyang Museum is a museum about the local area in Toucheng Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. The museum building was designed by a team led by Kris Yao those design was inspired by the cuestas commonly seen along Beiguan Coast. The museum adopts the geometric shapes of the cuestas where the roof protrudes from the ground at an angle of 20 degrees meeting a wall which rises from the ground at an angle of 70 degrees. Thus the building emerges from the ground in a similar fashion to those cuestas. The museum features exhibits showcasing the topography of Yilan, including the mountains, the plains, and the sea.
Meihua Lake
The Meihua Lake or Plum Blossom Lake is a lake in Dongshan Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. Meihua means plum blossom because of its resemblance to a plum flower with five pedals. The lake was originally named Dapi Lake. In the 1970s, President Chiang Ching-kuo visited the area and was impressed by its beauty, hence naming it Meihua Lake. There is a small island that sits at the center of the lake with a suspension bridge connecting to the circular trail.
National Center for Traditional Arts
The National Center for Traditional Arts or also called Center for Traditional Arts is located by the river bank of Dongshan River in Wujie Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. The center's total area is 24 hectares.
Sandiaojiao lighthouse
Constructed in 1931, Sandiaojiao Lighthouse sits at the easternmost tip of Taiwan. Called the "Eye of Taiwan," the lighthouse is a popular destination for visitors seeking to catch the earliest dawn rays to shine on Taiwan. "Sandiao" is a Taiwanese translation of "Santiago," the name given to this area by the Spanish when they discovered the cape. An exhibit area introduces the lighthouse equipment and information. This is the only lighthouse open to the public in northern Taiwan. It is also a favorite location for shooting TV dramas and wedding photos.
Taipei
Taipei, officially Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, ROC). Located in northern Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km southwest of the northern port city of Keelung. Most of the city lies in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.
Wufongci Waterfall
Wufongci (Five-Peak Flag) Waterfall is a renowned scenic spot in Jiaoxi Township. The waterfall got its name because of the five peaks that line the background of the waterfall which look like a flag from afar. There are three sections in this 100-meter long waterfall. The bottom section is about 20 meters long with several ponds formed along it. They provide the tourists great spots for water play. The middle one is about 30 meters long and formed by the water gushing out from the cliff wall. Waterfall Viewing Pavilion here is a perfect location to enjoy the spectacular scenery of its surrounding mountains and valleys. The top section is about 50 meters long and runs down from the steep and narrow gorges.
Yilan County
Yilan County, alternately spelled I-lan, is a county in northeastern Taiwan, Republic of China. The name Yilan name derives from the indigenous Kavalan people. Other former names in reference to this area in the Yilan Plain include Kabalan, Kavalan, Kavaland, La-A-Lan, E-A-Lan, Yiland and Gilan. Before 2009, the county's official name was transliterated as Ilan. The city of Yilan is located in the central and most favored part of the Lanyang Plain. Streams and rivers provide a constant source of replenishment for the nutrients in the soil here, making Yilan a breadbasket county. Yilan looks out to the sea on Taiwan's Northeast Coast, with mountains on the three other sides forming a unique geography that has nurtured an equally distinctive cultural landscape and human warmth.
