The term Monsopiad refers to a famous Kadazan warrior who lived 300 years ago. Legend has it that when the warrior was born the sacred Bugang bird who had made its nest on the roof of the family home also hatched its eggs. The warrior’s father took this as a good omen and decided his son would have special powers.
