Highlights

Cormorant and Herons Colony
One of Europe's largest colonies of cormorants and grey herons is amassed in the forest 1km south of Juodkrantė. Wooden steps lead from the road to a viewing platform where the panorama of thousands of nests amid pine trees – not to mention the noise of the 6500-strong colony – is astonishing. Cormorants arrive in early February (herons a little later) to pick and rebuild their nests. By May chicks are screaming for food.
Curonian Spit
The Curonian Spit is a 98 km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. Its southern portion lies within Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia and its northern within southwestern Lithuania. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by the two countries.
Juodkrantė
Juodkrantė (Black Shore) with permanent population of about 720 people is a quiet Lithuanian seaside resort village located on the Curonian Spit. A large collection of wooden sculptures by various artists is displayed on the Hill of Witches. The sculpture park was started in 1979 and now has more than 70 wooden objects. Most of the figures are based on Lithuanian legends or folk tales. Another sculpture park was finished in 2002. It houses 31 stone and metal sculptures created during an international symposium "Land and Water." The sculptures are located on the recently built quay, 2.4 km in length, along the lagoon shore. You shouldn't also miss a Museum of weathercocks.
Klaipeda Old Town
Klaipėda's Old Town is notable among other towns in Lithuania for its abundance of German and Scandinavian architecture. Klaipėda's Old Town is unique with its fachwerk architectural style and the planned street structure, which is uncharacteristic to any other old town in Lithuania. Its streets are geometrically configured very correctly, and the angle of intersection is always straight.
Klaipeda Simon Dach Fountain
Dedicated to the Klaipėda-born German poet (1605–59) who was the focus of a circle of Königsberg writers and musicians, this fountain supports a statue of Ännchen von Tharau.
Klaipeda Theater Square
One of most popular places in Klaipėda's old town is The Theatre Square, hosts a variety of concerts, the Sea Festival, the International Jazz Festival and other events. An important focus of the Theatre Square is the Taravos Anikė sculpture depicting a youthful barefoot girl. The sculpture was erected in the memory of the poet Simonas Dachas and perpetuates one of the poet's described heroes. Another notable building is the Drama Theatre.
