Highlights

Courts of Guernsey
The Courts of Guernsey are responsible for the administration of justice in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. They apply the law of the Island, which is a mixture of customary law dating back as far as the 10th century and legislation passed by the legislature, the States of Deliberation.
Fortifications of Guernsey
Fort Hommet is a fortification on Vazon Bay headland in Castel, Guernsey. It is built on the site of fortifications that date back to 1680, and consists of a Martello tower from 1804, later additions during the Victorian Era, and bunkers and casemates that the Germans constructed during World War II.
German fortification of Guernsey
After the Wehrmacht occupied the Channel Islands on 30 June 1940, they assessed the existing defences to determine if they would be of use. The Germans found the Islands' fortifications antiquated and woefully inadequate for modern warfare.
Guernsey
Guernsey is one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel near the French coast and is a self-governing British Crown dependency. It's known for beach resorts like Cobo Bay and the scenery of its coastal cliffs. Castle Cornet, a 13th-century harbor fortification in the capital of St. Peter Port, now contains history and military museums. Hauteville House is the lavish former home of French writer, Victor Hugo.
The Little Chapel Guernsey
The Little Chapel is situated in the Les Vauxbelets valley, Saint Andrew, Guernsey. It was created in July 1914, by Brother Déodat. He planned to create a miniature version of the grotto and basilica at Lourdes, the Rosary Basilica.

Itinerary

10:00

his tour can include many of Guernsey’s beautiful sites such as:

  • Catherine Best Studio (Entrance is free) – famous for her award-winning jewelry, Catherine Best’s collection is situated in her studio at the Old Mill.  The friendly & helpful designers will be on hand to advise and assist with any requirements or questions.  Watch jewelry being made on the premises, and take home some of these exquisite pieces for yourself.
  • German Underground Hospital (Entrance is approx. £3.50 (GBP) per adult & £1.00 (GBP) per child – payable on the day) – This is the largest construction in the Channel Islands and the underground tunnel complex spans approx. 7,000 square meters.  Work began on the construction in the 1940s during WW2 & was shaped out of the solid rock by slave workers who were captured during this time.
  • The Little Chapel – a miniature church which is decorated exquisitely with porcelain pottery, one of the most visited sites in Guernsey.  This miniature church was built in 1914 with a plan to create a miniature version of the famous grotto and basilica at Lourdes in France.  Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Little Chapel is a beautiful little souvenir shop and the Clockmakers, here you can also spend time to admire the different clocks and also to souvenir shop if you wish.
  • Batterie Dollmann Gun Pit – Here you can freely walk around the site & view the Battery Gun Pit that is the last of its type in Europe.  This French, 10 tonnes, 22cm gun was restored by Guernsey Armouries in 1997 and sits in Gun Pit No. 3 of a German Coastal Artillery Battery, Batterie Dollmann.  When restoring this German Coastal Artillery Battery started, the bunkers were revealed to be remarkably intact including armored doors & a bunker telephone.  On various Sundays during the summer, the site is fully open to the public and the gun is fired using blank charges.
  • Guernsey Candles (Entrance is Free) – For those who like Candles, why not view a Candle-making demonstration.  You will get to see the different candles being dipped in the colored waxes and then carved.  You can also take a stroll around the gift shop at your own leisure.
