Kusadasi is reputed for being one of the most attractive cities of the Aegean, as it is close to the important historical sites including Ephesus, Didyma, Priene, Miletos-the principals of ancient times, and ideal for sightseers. The extensive ruins including the theatre, library, or gymnasium create the special atmosphere of Ephesus and appeal to many visitors. Didyma is a famous temple for its oracles. This temple dedicated to Apollo was the richest and biggest of the Ionian temples on Anatolian soil. The most important monuments to be seen at Miletos are the Bath of Faustina, the Delphinion, and the amphitheater. The first establishments in Priene date back to 2000 BC. According to ancient documents, these first settlers were the Banians who mixed with the Ionians.

Highlights

Ephesus
Ephesus is an ancient city in Turkey’s Central Aegean region, near modern-day Selçuk. Its excavated remains reflect centuries of history, from classical Greece to the Roman Empire – when it was the Mediterranean’s main commercial center – to the spread of Christianity. Paved streets wind past squares, baths and monumental ruins. The Temple of Hadrian was built before 138 A.D. for Emperor Hadrian’s visit.
Temple of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis or Artemision, also known less precisely as the Temple of Diana, was a Greek temple dedicated to an ancient, local form of the goddess Artemis. It was located in Ephesus.
Village Sirince
Şirince is a village of 600 inhabitants in İzmir Province, Turkey, located about 8 kilometres east of the town Selçuk and about 8 kilometres from Ephesus. The area around the village has history dating back to Hellenistic period.

Itinerary

10:00

After meeting with your private guide, you will have a 20-minute drive to the Ephesus area. We will start visiting one of the main highlights in Turkey, Ephesus, one of the 12 cities of the Ionian League (an ancient Greek district on the western coast of Asia Minor) As a port city it was a major departure point for trade routes into Asia Minor.

We will continue the walk through history along marble streets lined with wonderful public buildings, among them the Baths of Scholastica, the Library of Celsus which was built at the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. by Gaius Julius Aquila to be a memorial to his father Gaius Julius Celsus Polemanus, the proconsul of Province of Asia. The Temple of Hadrian and The Grand Theatre are two of the most impressive buildings in Ephesus. The Grand Theatre was built in the 3rd century B.C and it was later expanded to 24.000 spectators by the Romans in the 1st century A.D.

There is plenty of souvenir stands and also restrooms at the end of Ephesus.

After visiting Ephesus, we will visit Artemis Temple where used to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world before it was destroyed in a fire. After the Temple, we will drive up to the pretty old Turkish-Orthodox village Sirince, located on the top of a mountain, where anyone will enjoy the impressive wine yards and peach trees. The village has a synthesis of Turk-Greek culture, where we visit mosques and Orthodox churches. All the narrow streets of the village belong to the women, selling handcrafts of all kinds, olive oil. Another attraction of Sirince is its fruity wine, try its taste in small cafés.
