Highlights

Agulo
Agulo is located on the north coast of the island of La Gomera in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. It is located 13 km northwest of the capital San Sebastián de la Gomera. The population was 1,100 in 2013.
Garajonay National Park
Garajonay National Park is a densely forested area on La Gomera, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. Misty and humid, the park has rare laurel forests and many subtropical plant species. From the Pajarito trailhead, a circular route reaches Alto de Garajonay peak, with archaeological sites and sweeping views. To the east, Mirador El Bailadero lookout has views of the Los Roques rock formations and of the Hermigua ravine.
Hermigua
Hermigua is a town and a municipality in the northeastern part of La Gomera in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands, Spain. It is located 12 km northwest of the island's capital, San Sebastián de la Gomera. The Garajonay National Park covers the southern part of the municipality.
La Gomera
La Gomera, the second-smallest of the main islands in Spain’s Canary Island chain, is marked by craggy volcanic mountains crisscrossed with hiking trails. In higher altitudes, dense forests of ferns and moss-covered trees grow in the mists of Garajonay National Park. Toward the coast, the Valle Gran Rey canyon leads past the whitewashed cliffside village of La Calera and ends at black-sand Atlantic beaches.
San Sebastian de La Gomera
San Sebastián de La Gomera is the capital of La Gomera, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. The Church of the Assumption has a mural depicting an 18th-century battle, and a museum with religious artwork dating from the 16th century. Nearby, La Gomera Archaeological Museum traces the island’s indigenous cultures through artifacts and scale models. South is the Torre del Conde, a medieval fortification set in a lush park.

Itinerary

10:00

Setting off from La Gomera’s capital, San Sebastian, the town with a population of just 8700 inhabitants is delightful with low rise brightly-colored houses, and narrow, winding streets. San Sebastian and the Island are famous for being the last port of call in the known world on the 1492 Epic journey by Christopher Columbus. After leaving the town we head for the Valley of Hermigua, which is well-known for its sprawling banana plantations.

You’ll get a good look at the vast fields on your way to Agulo, a pretty village that’s surrounded by a huge basalt wall, which measures 300 meters high. There’ll be a photo stop here, so you can get out and enjoy the panoramas across the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re really lucky and the weather is clear, you’ll be able to see Tenerife and towering Mount Teide in the distance.

Finally, you’ll drive through the sweeping Garajonay National Park, an ancient ecosystem that’s part of the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage collection. Look out for wildlife unique to the area, as you pass through this such primeval laurel forest, which extends over the large central plateau of the island. There’ll be one more stop en route to the ship at Los Roques – an area of four formidable volcanic chimneys protruding that have been exposed by differential erosion over millions of years.
