Bar
Bar is a coastal town and seaport in southern Montenegro. It is the capital of the Bar Municipality and a center for tourism. Local archaeological findings date to the Neolithic era. It is assumed that Bar was mentioned as the reconstructed Roman castle, Antipargal, in the 6th century. The name Antibarium was quoted for the first time in the 10th century. The natural area around Bar is mostly untouched and is rich in vegetation. The Bar municipality stretches to the southern shore of Skadar lake and encompasses Krajina region. This area is visited for its leisure activities and hiking.
King Nikola's palace
Bar Royal Palace is a (former) royal summer residence in Bar, Montenegro. The palace was constructed by king Nikola I Petrović-Njegoš in 1885, and was a gift to his daughter Princess Zorka and his son-in-law, Prince Petar Karađorđević. The complex includes the large and the small palace, a chapel, houses for the guards and a winter garden. A spacious ballroom was added in 1910. At the front of the palace, there was a wooden pier. Between 1866 and 1916, King Nikola owned ten yachts. One of them, Sibil, was bought from Jules Verne, the novelist. The last yacht bought was the Rumija. In 1915, it was sunk in the Bar harbour by the Austro-Hungarian navy. Currently, the palace houses the city museum of Bar. Also, it is used as a venue for festivals, concerts, exhibitions and literary events.
St. John Orthodox church
The magnificent Cathedral of St. John Vladimir whose construction began nearly 20 years ago, located in downtown, not far from the coast. It has an area of 1200 m² and height of 41 meters. Characteristics of the temple are that the frescoes painted 4,860 square meters, is made of marble iconostasis length of 18.5 m and is set floor mosaic of 550 m². On the central dome is painted Ascension while in the lower part the dome is painted the Madonna with the 12 apostles, four evangelists, which makes a total 600 m² of the frescoes. The temple was erected in honor of St. John Vladimir - the first Serbian saint and protector of Bar.There are three basic features of his thousand year old spiritual presence in this region: The remains of the monastery of the Preciste Bogorodice Krajinske in which they are relics of Holy King been up to 1215, Cross of Saint John Vladimir and legend of Vladimir and Kosara.
Stari Bar
Stari Bar, meaning Old Bar, is a small town in Montenegro. It is located inland, a few miles from the new city of Bar, resting on Londša hill, at the foot of Mount Rumija. According to the 2003 census, the town has a population of 1,864 people. After the 1979 Montenegro earthquake destroyed the aqueduct that supplied water to the town, the location was abandoned, and the new town of Bar constructed on the coast at the old port facilities. After the aqueduct was restored some years later, people began to return.
