Highlights

Ancient village of Savoca
Savoca is a small village located in the Province of Messina and it is rich in beautiful ancient churches and interesting cultural attractions. The ancient village of Savoca was founded in 1116 by Roger I. Later the village was ruled by Spanish until the unification of Italy.
Corso Umberto of Taormina
The famous Corso Umberto of Taormina, the road that crosses the whole historical center of the city and frequented by many tourists every day, is closed at the ends by two gates, Porta Catania and Porta Messina. In the middle of the street, we find the door called the Clock Tower.
Greek Theatre of Taormina
The ancient theatre is without question the most important feature for sight-seers in Taormina, also because of its very fortunate natural setting, with a splendid view toward the Calabrian coast, the Ionian coast of Sicily and the spectacular cone of Etna.
Messina
Messina is a harbor city in northeast Sicily, separated from mainland Italy by the Strait of Messina. It’s known for the Norman Messina Cathedral, with its Gothic portal, 15th-century windows and an astronomical clock on the bell tower. Nearby are marble fountains decorated with mythological figures, like the Fontana di Orione, with its carved inscriptions, and the Neptune Fountain, topped by a statue of the sea god.
Taormina
Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today. Near the theater, cliffs drop to the sea forming coves with sandy beaches. A narrow stretch of sand connects to Isola Bella, a tiny island and nature reserve.

The guide will wait for you with a sign at the exit gate of the cruise port in Messina or at your hotel if you are staying in a hotel in Messina. We can pick up also from B&B. Please specify in the booking.

From the harbor of Messina or your hotel, we will drive first on the highway and then along the coast to get to Savoca. We will stop to see the settings of a couple of scenes of the Godfather film by Francis Ford Coppola. You can enjoy a tasty granita in the same bar where Al Pacino and Robert De Niro did!

Afterward, we will drive a terrific road to Taormina, often referred to as the “Pearl of Sicily.” Admire historic landmarks, such as the Porta Messina entrance and fragments of the old town walls, as well as the 10th-century Palace of Corvaja. Marvel at the ancient Greek Theater overlooking Taormina.

At the end of the tour, we will return back to Messina.
