After meeting your guide, the tour will commence with a morning tour of Saranda. Saranda is derived from the name of the Byzantine Monastery of Agioi Saranda which means “Forty Saints” honoring the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste. Here, we will visit the ruins of Synagogue – Bazilika before being transferred 2 kilometers south of Saranda.
Situated on a dominating hill is the Castle of Lekursi which was built by Sultan Suleiman during his campaign against Corfu. From Lekursi Castle you will enjoy magnificent views of Saranda Town, the Ionian Sea, and the island of Corfu. We will then head to the hypnotic pool of deep-blue water known to the locals as “Syri I kaltër” or the Blue Eye.
This enchanting spring resembles the iris of a human eye and it said to have blocked off to the general population during the communist days and was only reserved for the elites.
