Highlights

Penang
Penang is a Malaysian state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, by the Malacca Strait. It has two parts: Penang Island, where the capital city, George Town, is located, and Seberang Perai on the Malay Peninsula. They are connected by Malaysia's two longest road bridges, the Penang Bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge; the latter is also, as of May 2019, the longest oversea bridge in Southeast Asia. The second smallest Malaysian state by landmass, Penang is bordered by Kedah to the north and the east, and Perak to the south.
Swettenham Pier
Swettenham Pier is a pier within the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Established in 1904, it is the busiest port-of-call in Malaysia for cruise shipping. The pier plays a vital role as a major entry point for tourists into Penang, aside from the Penang International Airport and land connections. Other than cruise shipping, Swettenham Pier, located at Weld Quay, has hosted warships as well. Navy ships from several nations, including Singapore, Thailand and the United States, have berthed at the pier in the past.

Itinerary

10:00

This tour begins at Swettenham Port where you will meet your guide to receive your bicycle and safety gear. He will then begin your tour with a cycle around the harbor to learn about the imports and exports from one of the most important ports in Asia. You will then cycle to Clan Jetty which forms part of the Heritage Trail. The jetties were built on the water during the early 20th century as homes for Chinese fishermen; this was also the place where Dragon Boat racing first took place in Penang.  You will also have the chance to see the street art, the result of a project funded by the government to liven up the streets. Some of the images on the walls of buildings are amazing and extremely detailed; you will feel like you are in an open-air gallery!

The cycling tour will lead you to a local traditional hawker food stall for a morning breakfast. You will enjoy great varieties of food that are typically consumed in the morning. Once you have enjoyed your breakfast you will cycle to the Hock Teik Chen Sin Temple to listen to stories of the Hokkien Secret Society which challenged the Ghee Hin secret society in the Penang Riots of 1867.

After exploring some more of the heritage sites you will be able to enjoy Penang’s famous traditional hawker food in the stall for lunch.

This tour is a great way to explore this historical city and is a fun and exciting day to spend with friends or family!
