Carbet Beach

The Carbet beach is one of the largest beaches on the North Caribbean coast. This black sand cove is ideal for swimming and enjoying a beautiful sunset. It is also the place of the fourth and last landing of Christopher Columbus, June 15, 1502.

Fort de France

Fort-de-France is a commune and the capital of Martinique, an overseas department of France located in the Caribbean. It is also one of the major cities in the Caribbean. Even if you've come to Martinique for the beaches, you'll be very glad to spend a day in vibrant Fort-de-France, the island's capital and by far the biggest city in the French West Indies. A popular destination for cruise ships, international yachties and French tourists, the bustling centre has everything from tranquil parks and a tiny beach to colourful local markets and worthwhile restaurants, its lively streets contrasting starkly with the rest of often sleepy Martinique. The obvious attraction is Fort St-Louis, from which the city takes it name. The capital is also a superb shopping destination and the best place to source local souvenirs.

Martinique

Martinique, island and overseas territorial collectivity of France, in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is included in the Lesser Antilles island chain. Its nearest neighbours are the island republics of Dominica, 22 miles (35 km) to the northwest, and Saint Lucia, 16 miles (26 km) to the south. Guadeloupe, another part of overseas France, lies about 75 miles (120 km) to the north. The name Martinique is probably a corruption of the Indian name Madiana (“Island of Flowers”) or Madinina (“Fertile Island with Luxuriant Vegetation”), as reputedly told to Christopher Columbus by the Caribs in 1502. The administrative capital and chief town is Fort-de-France.

Mount Pelee Volcano

Mount Pelée or Mont Pelée is an active volcano at the northern end of Martinique, an island and French overseas department in the Lesser Antilles Volcanic Arc of the Caribbean. Its volcanic cone is composed of stratified layers of hardened ash and solidified lava. Its most recent eruption was in 1932.

Neisson Rum distillery

Neisson is one of the only family owned distilleries that remains on the island of Martinique. Distillerie Neisson was founded in 1922 by brothers Jean and Adrien Neisson after acquiring roughly 20 hectares of land in Le Carbet. Jean Neisson, the elder of the two brothers, went to university to study chemical engineering in Paris before making the journey back to Martinique to build the distillery in 1931.

Sacred Heart Church

Sacre Coeur Basilica (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) is a replica of the famous Sacre Coeur in Paris.

Saint Pierre

Saint-Pierre is a town and commune of France's Caribbean overseas department of Martinique, founded in 1635 by Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc. Before the total destruction of Saint-Pierre by a volcanic eruption in 1902, it was the most important city of Martinique culturally and economically, being known as "the Paris of the Caribbean". While Fort-de-France was the official administrative capital, Saint-Pierre was the cultural capital of Martinique. After the disaster, Fort-de-France grew in economic importance.

Saut Gendarme Waterfalls

In the town of Fonds-Saint-Denis, south of Morne Rouge, Saut Gendarme is a small waterfall easily accessible. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this mini waterfall and its pond overlook a small rocky river. Relaxing and refreshing, this place was developed by the NFO (National Forests Office). A bridge, small carbets, tables and benches were indeed placed in this green setting. People come to picnic, take a dip and enjoy the surrounding flora and fauna. Facing the waterfall, a small trail allows walking in the forest and discovering heliconias, tree ferns and hummingbirds.

You will be met at the cruise port.

Your journey will begin with a drive through the Caribbean coastal road, with your first stop being the Neisson Rum distillery located in Le Carbet. You will have the chance to see the rum process, and enjoy sampling some of the delicious flavors, even have the opportunity to purchase a bottle of your favorite Rum should you choose to. Continuing your tour, you will head to the Carbet Beach. This is a wide beach with black sand. Take the opportunity to relax in the atmosphere of this stunning beach. After your beach stop, you will then travel to the ruins of Saint Pierre. A town destroyed by the volcano Mount Pelee in the early 20th Century, which you will admire as you pass by. Your next stop it is at the Saut Gendarme Waterfalls. Once there you will be charmed by the clear waters and tropical forest. The tour then moves onto the Alma River, where you will see the abundant tropical rain forest, before visiting the Sacred Heart Church, also known as Balata Church. This church was built in the 1920s and is a replica of the church in Paris (Sacre Coeur de Balata).

At the end of your tour you will be returned to the port in plenty of time for your ships departure.
