Highlights

Cap 110
Cap 110 is a memorial erected in memory of slavery. It was built at Anse Caffard during the sesquicentennial of the abolition of slavery in 1998 by Laurent Valere, a painter and sculptor of Martinique. The choice of Anse Caffard is not trivial. This is indeed the edge of the Anse Caffard (which owes its name to Jean Caffard a colon) a ship carrying 300 slaves ran aground in a storm on the rocks of the coast on the night of April 8, 1830. Now at that time, the slave trade was illegal since 1817. The boat was completely destroyed what prevented him from knowing his name and find its source. Only six bodies were recovered. The bodies of the sailors were buried in the cemetery and those slaves were buried near the shore. 86 slaves, 26 men and 60 women were rescued from the wreck and transferred to Fort-de-France.
Diamond Rock
Diamond Rock is a 175-metre-high basalt island located south of "Grande Anse du Diamant" before arriving from the south at Fort-de-France, the main port of the Caribbean island of Martinique. The uninhabited island is about 3 kilometres from Pointe Diamant. The island gets its name from the reflections that its sides cast at certain hours of the day, which evoke images of a precious stone. It is notable for events during the Napoleonic Wars.
Fort de France
Fort-de-France is a commune and the capital of Martinique, an overseas department of France located in the Caribbean. It is also one of the major cities in the Caribbean. Even if you've come to Martinique for the beaches, you'll be very glad to spend a day in vibrant Fort-de-France, the island's capital and by far the biggest city in the French West Indies. A popular destination for cruise ships, international yachties and French tourists, the bustling centre has everything from tranquil parks and a tiny beach to colourful local markets and worthwhile restaurants, its lively streets contrasting starkly with the rest of often sleepy Martinique. The obvious attraction is Fort St-Louis, from which the city takes it name. The capital is also a superb shopping destination and the best place to source local souvenirs.
Les Anses d'Arlet
With its picture postcard looks and peaceful atmosphere, the unmissable fishing village of Les Anses-d'Arlet has everything a visitor could want. Its charming little church, Creole houses, sandy beach and pontoon over the turquoise sea create a truly picturesque scene… Aligned exactly with the pontoon on the beach, the Church of St Henry of Les Anses-d'Arlet is undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in all Martinique! Although hit by a hurricane in 2007, the whole building was restored identically in 2012.
Les Trois Ilets
Les Trois-Îlets is a town and commune in the French overseas department of Martinique. It was the birthplace of Joséphine (1763–1814), who married Napoleon Bonaparte and became Empress of the French.
Martinique
Martinique, island and overseas territorial collectivity of France, in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is included in the Lesser Antilles island chain. Its nearest neighbours are the island republics of Dominica, 22 miles (35 km) to the northwest, and Saint Lucia, 16 miles (26 km) to the south. Guadeloupe, another part of overseas France, lies about 75 miles (120 km) to the north. The name Martinique is probably a corruption of the Indian name Madiana (“Island of Flowers”) or Madinina (“Fertile Island with Luxuriant Vegetation”), as reputedly told to Christopher Columbus by the Caribs in 1502. The administrative capital and chief town is Fort-de-France.
