Highlights

Gaomei Wetlands
Gaomei Wetlands, officially Gaomei Wetland Preservation Area, is a wetland in Qingshui District, Taichung, Taiwan. Gaomei Wetlands was established on 29 September 2005. In August 2015, Typhoon Soudelor destroyed 6 out of 18 wind turbines of Taiwan Power Company in the area. In October 2019, a bridge connecting Taichung mainland with the wetlands area failed a safety inspection in the aftermath of Nanfang'ao Bridge collapse 3 weeks earlier in Su'ao Township, Yilan County. The Binhai Bridge was examined by Taiwan International Ports Corporation. It spans over a length of 70 meters and was 45 years old by the time of inspection.
Miyahara Ice Cream
Miyahara was once an ophthalmology clinic back in the day, but it is a popular tourist attraction today. Located in the Central District of Taichung, Taiwan, Miyahara is a restaurant and a retail store that sells chocolate, cookies, and traditional Taiwanese pastries, including pineapple cake and sun cakes. And not to mention, the Miyahara ice-cream parlour is the best in town! So if you are visiting Taichung and want to see one of the best attractions in the city, then you must visit Miyahara. Bring a camera to take snapshots of the beautiful Harry Potter-esque interiors, and an appetite for the most delicious ice-cream you can’t find anywhere else!
Taichung City
Taichung is an industrial city on the western side of central Taiwan. It’s a gateway for exploring the island’s mountainous interior, including nature areas like Sun Moon Lake, popular for boating and hiking. In the bustling city center are museums, temples, and the ornate brick Taichung Station, a legacy of the Japanese colonial period (1895–1945). Among the activities to catch when visiting Taichung: the world-class science museum, the stunning architecture at the National Taichung Theater, the quality National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the colorful Rainbow Village, sunset over Kaomei Wetlands, and hiking in the nearby hills at Dakeng. There are also many famous night markets that provide night-time excitement. Here you can enjoy delicious food and drink, and find cheap and interesting items for sale.
Taichung Old station
Taichung station is a railway station in Taichung, Taiwan served by Taiwan Railways Administration. It is served by all TRA services along the route. The station was originally constructed in 1905 in a wooden building architectural style and started its operation in 1908. In 1917, it was rebuilt as a red brick structure with Renaissance architectural style. On 16 October 2016, the elevated station was inaugurated in which the ground-level station was shut down. The first train that arrived at the elevated station was at 06:28. The ceremony was attended by President Tsai Ing-wen and Transportation and Communication Minister Hochen Tan.
Taichung Rainbow Village
Rainbow Village is a military dependents' village that was converted into street art in Nantun District, Taichung, Taiwan. The artwork of the area was created by a former soldier, Huang Yung-Fu, who was born in Taishan County, Guangdong province in 1924. The eldest of four brothers and two sisters Huang's artistic talents were revealed early on. He began painting houses in his settlement, now known as Rainbow village, to save them from demolition. Over the years his colorful artwork, which includes birds, animals and people, has spread over the remaining houses in the village, which once contained 1,200 homes.
Xinshe Castle
Located in the mountainous area of Taichung, Xinshe Castle, also known as Xinshe Mansion, is a medieval themed guesthouse that might trick visitors into thinking they are actually somewhere in Europe. With the charming mansion, pond, waterfall and garden as a romantic backdrop, Xinshe Castle is one of the favorite destinations for pre-wedding photoshoot. Besides a number of restaurants and souvenir shops, the mansion also has a winery for every persuasion. Due to its location in the mountains, don’t forget to bring your sunblock and bug spray if you are visiting Xinshe Castle during the summer.
Zhongshe Flower Market
Zhongshe Flower Market is a busy flower-viewing spot to the north of Taichung. It’s the only flower market in the low altitude areas of central Taiwan to have been able to successfully grow tulips, with over 150,000 tulips in bloom from January to March. The farm is large enough to keep you entertained for a while, but all very walkable. Along the way you’ll stroll through fields of lavender, sunflowers and many other colorful flowers.
