Highlights

Kristiansund
Kristiansund is a municipality on the western coast of Norway in the Nordmøre district of Møre og Romsdal county. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Kristiansund (which was established in 1742), which is the major town for the whole Nordmøre region. Other notable settlements in the municipality include the villages of Kvalvåg, Rensvik, and Nedre Frei. The 87-square-kilometer (34 sq mi) municipality is the 333rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Kristiansund is the 51st most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 24,179. The municipality's population density is 280.6 inhabitants per square kilometer (727/sq mi) and its population has increased by 4% over the previous 10-year period.
Nordlandet Church
Nordlandet Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the western end of the island of Nordlandet in the town of Kristiansund. It is the church for the Nordlandet parish which is part of the Ytre Nordmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The gray, stone church was built in a cruciform style in 1914 by the architect Hagbarth Martin Schytte-Berg. The church seats about 700 people.
Norsk Klippfiskmuseum
The Norwegian Clipfish Museum is located in Kristiansund and is established as part of the Nordmøre Museum. The museum is located in Milnbrygga, an authentic clipfish pier from the mid-18th century. The museum shows how clipfish production has taken place in Norway for more than 250 years. The pier includes rockfish mountains and a washing area for fish. The facility is centrally located by the harbor, in the middle of Kristiansund's cityscape. Every year, a bacalao festival is held where companies and clipfish lovers compete to make the best bacalao. Bacalao in Norwegian is a stew of clipfish. Clipfish have been produced here since before 1749, when the Scottish clipfish merchant William Gordon erected the oldest parts of the pier. The building was named after a later owner, also one of the Scottish clipfish merchants, Walter Miln. Milnbrygga is a warehouse, built in -built timber and large galleries lengthwise. The word pier means in Nordmøre and in Kristiansund a house, a boathouse, which is located in the landscape so that it has a direct inflow, ie that boats and vessels can be laid directly next to the building so that loading and unloading take place directly between building and boat.
Old Shipbuilding Museum
Mellemværftet – literally «the middle shipyard» - is situated in the heart of the city of Kristiansund. Mellemværftet, a section of the regional museum of Nordmøre, is a working museum where the curator wears overalls, a wood working and iron forging museum. It is at one and the same time a living museum from the age of working sail in the 19th century, a working center for the preservation and use of traditional vessels and, finally, a center for maritime culture of all kinds. In commercial operation from 1850 to 1978, the shipyard has been part of regional museum since 1984.
Statue of the Clipfish Woman
A beautiful statue which clearly shows the importance of klippfisk in Norway and Kristiansund. Bronze statue of the Klipfish wife to commemorate the workers on the klippfish rocks, sculpted by Tore Bjorn Skjolsvik. It was a gift to the city on its 250 year anniversary, and was unveiled by HRH Queen Sonja in 1992 with three genuine klippfish workers present. The statue has become one of the town's best-known symbols and photo motifs. The statue is situated on the Pier
The House of Patrick Volckmar - coffee roastery
In the House of Patrick Volckmar there is a coffee roastery which is over 100 years old, and the coffee roaster itself is probably Norway's oldest still in use. Today also a café, which in addition to selling freshly grinded coffee also sells klipfisk, glass, books. The House of Patrick Volckmar also has an outdoor area where one can enjoy a cup of freshly grinded coffee. Situated nicely in Vågen, on the road between Nordmøre Museum's Mellemværftet and Norwegian Klipfish Museum.
The Sundbåten boat
The Sundbåten boat - The world's oldest public transport service in uninterrupted use. Part of Kristiansund's cultural heritage and the world's oldest means of public transport still in use. The first passenger boat service started up in 1876. A new boat - "Angvik" - was taken into service in 2005, and now service the harbour along with "Rapp" built in 1958. These small passenger ferries depart from the Piren pier at the foot of Kaibakken hill and run between the four «lands», as the four areas of Kristiansund are called. A roundtrip with the Sundbåten is a great way to experience Kristiansund. Explore different parts of the town with churches, galleries, klipfish museum and a vivid harbour life.
