Wat Lum Mahachai Chumphon is a Buddhist temple complex (Wat) and is located on Taksin Road in the middle of Rayong, not far from the bank of the Rayong River. Wat Lum Mahachai Chumphon is particularly notable for the shrine to the great King Taksin, who reestablished the Ayutthaya Empire between 1767 and 1782 after it was destroyed by the Burmese. Taksin is highly venerated by the locals, especially those of Chinese descent, as his father was of Chinese descent and therefore not noble at the time. On his march through the remnants of the Ayutthaya Empire, he gathered many soldiers to rebel with them against the foreign Burmese rule. The shrine is built on the spot where he and his troops took a rest. The statue shows the king with a long sword.
