Highlights

Giardini San Carlos
This is a place of history, with the tomb of Sir John Moore, famous for his heroism in saving the British army. A quiet place in a busy city.
La Coruna
A Coruña is a port city on a promontory in the Galicia region of northwest Spain. It’s known for its Roman lighthouse, the Tower of Hercules, which has sweeping coastal views. In the medieval old town is the arcaded Plaza de María Pita, surrounded by narrow pedestrianized lanes. In this square is the Estatua de María Pita, a statue of a 16th-century woman who warned the town of an invasion by Sir Francis Drake.
La Coruña Town Hall
The Town Hall is located in Plaza de María Pita. Inside the Town Hall are an interesting clock museum, a few huge mosaic artworks, and some impressive stained glass. The plaza itself is named for national hero María Pita. She prevented a Britsh invasion in the 16th century when she killed a British soldier and encouraged a counterattack against an imminent British invasion. Her statue stands prominently in the square.
Maria Pita square
The square where the Town Hall is located owes its name to a local heroine, Maria Píta, who saved the city in 1589, sounding the alarm when the English, led by Francis Drake, scaled the walls. Surrounded on three sides by buildings with glass-covered galleries and arcades typical of Corunna, the María Pita Square is closed to traffic and has many terraces.
Paseo marítimo de La Coruña
Paseo marítimo de La Coruña is the longest urban promenade in Europe, 1 with its more than 13 continuous kilometers on the seashore. It is a work done in sections, modified and unfinished.

Itinerary

10:00

Begin your walking tour with a stroll from the port into the beautiful, picturesque Maria Pita Square, one of the town’s main city squares. As you get closer to the city hall in the square, it gives you a sense of walking in the Royal Court. After a short stop here for some photos, we will then move onto the next stop of the tour, the Old Town.

In remembrance of Elisa and Marcela’s marriage, the first 12th-century church is situated in the Saint Carlos Gardens. As you amble through the beautiful gardens, you will witness the magnificent views of the church. Your guide will also mention the stories about the English way to Santiago de Compostela that includes the city en EL Camino.

Leaving the Old Town, you will now move onto the La Marina promenade which is towards the Royal Nautical Club; there you will have the chance to see the glass galleries, which give the name “Crystal City” to La Coruna.

Continuing with the walking tour, you will now reach the modern area of the town, the Calle Real (Royal Street), a cobblestoned narrow street as you make your way towards the final point of the tour, the Orzand and Riazor Beaches.

You will now return to the port with your English-speaking guide in plenty of time for your cruise ship’s departure.
