Highlights

Puerta del Sol
The Puerta del Sol is a public square in Madrid, one of the best known and busiest places in the city. This is the centre of the radial network of Spanish roads. The square also contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the Twelve Grapes and the beginning of a new year.
Vigo
Vigo is a city and municipality in the province of Pontevedra (Spain), part of the autonomous community of Galicia. Located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, it sits on the southern shore of an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, the Ria de Vigo, the southernmost of the so-called Rías Baixas. Vigo is the most populated municipality of Galicia and the most populated city with a population of 350,000 inhabitants. The municipality has an area of 109.06 km2 (42.11 sq mi) and has a population of 295,364 in 2019. Vigo is one of the region's primary economic agents, owing in part to the French Citroën automotive factory and to the Port of Vigo. Close to Portugal–Spain border, Vigo is part of the Galicia–North Portugal Euroregion. The European Fisheries Control Agency is headquartered in Vigo.

Itinerary

10:00

The Cidade Vella or historic quarter of Vigo is centered around the old maritime section near the main port. This area has maintained its historical spirit of the sea with its fish market and neoclassical-style houses.

Known as the “gateway to the Atlantic,” Vigo is a popular port of call for many international tourists each year arriving by cruise ship.

From the Plaza Puerta del Sol, which lies between the Old town and the modern city, we will begin our discovery of Vigo’s old city. Meander through the narrow streets until we reach the San Sebastian Fortress, built in 1665 it boasts a prominent location on the hilltop. It’s viewing platform enables views over to the Cies Islands, nearby seaside villages, and the bateas.

Head away from the views of San Sebastian’s fortress and into the heart of the Old town. It is here where you will find the Collegiate Church. This Spanish religious building was rebuilt in a neo-classical style after it was burnt down in 1585, by the soldiers of Francis Drake.

Navigate through its characteristic streets until we reach the beautiful seaside promenade. Immerse yourself in its vibrant atmosphere and beautiful views.

With your tour now over, you can decide how to spend the rest of your day. Why not take a stroll along the promenade or explore the city on your own before making your own way back to the cruise port, or return with the guide.

Please ensure you leave enough time to make your journey back to the cruise port in plenty of time for your ship’s departure from the port.
