Highlights

Lombok
Lombok is an island in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. It forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali to the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to the east. It is roughly circular, with a "tail" (Sekotong Peninsula) to the southwest, about 70 kilometres (43 miles) across and a total area of about 4,514 square kilometres (1,743 square miles). The provincial capital and largest city on the island is Mataram.
Mataram
A part of West Nusatengarra (NTB) province, Mataram is the capital and main city of Lombok. As a center of government administration, Mataram has many large, impressive public buildings and substantial houses. The city also has transportation and shopping facilities. The main square is used for art exhibitions, theater, dance, and wayang kulit (puppet theater) performances. In other parts of Mataram, there are a variety of old-style markets and neighborhoods featuring traditional craftwork like basketware and gold- and silver-threaded sarongs, or wraparound garments.
Mayura Water Palace
What was once the former king's family temple is now more of a site where people come to stroll as it is no more than a public park. Constructed in 1744, the temple is a pilgrimage site for Lombok's Hindu community and during its heydey was the site for many processions and religious gatherings. During the Dutch colonial era, the temple compound witnessed battles between the colonial forces and the independence freedom fighters and remnants of the temple's bloody past can still be seen around the complex.
Pura Agung Narmada
The King of Mataram built Pura Agung Narmada in 1727, and it now holds a rich history and strong cultural significance to locals. In the dry season, the park is still used as a resting place by the royal family. Now Pura Agung Narmada has become a destination for locals to explore, swim or picnic at and this three-hectare park is very sacred for Hindus. Starting in the upper area of the park sits a stone step pyramid. There is also Balai Petirtaan, where water springs follow directly from Mount Rinjani and to enter the chamber, a yellow sash must be worn. It is believed that the water from the springs below is the water of immortality.
Sweta Market
Traditional market of Sweta is located near the historic tourist destination Narmada Park. it is the largest market in Lombok and you immediately feel that you are in the center of Lombok. The success of the market is because the articles sold on the market are relatively cheap and affordable. It is a huge complex of stalls and market stalls, where really there is everything for sale. Every day traders set up the stalls selling fresh products from the whole island, local snacks and products, live chickens and fresh fish in the afternoon when the fishing boat enters. At the Sweta Market you can buy herbs and nicely made wicker baskets, which some entrepreneurs buy and take to Bali to sell at high prices.
